I joined yesterday. I am 55 with 3 years Federal service. I am putting 10% currently. I was putting in 8%, but since Congress gave us a "free" 2% bump by lowering our Social Security, I just thought I might as well put that into TSP. I currently have about $20,000 in my account.

I have 50% L2050 and 50% G. I am trying to follow the Robert Lichello method, but am a bit more conservative than his full method due to my age.

It is great to be here. I have already found a wealth of information and am looking forward to learning more.

I am in Memphis, TN. Any other members in Memphis?

Welcome aboard Lion! I do not live in Memphis; however I have visited many times. Beautiful place to live. This is a great place to learn about TSP investing strategies and to make new friends. Good luck!

Thanks for the welcomes.

Well, I don't know how you define short run, but ... I figure I have to work until I am 67 to get my full SS. That's 12 years, I have 3 in, and I bought back my 3 years of Army service. That will give me the equivalent of 17-18 years when I retire.

lionround, welcome aboard and congrats on your federal position. Good luck.

Welcome lionround, I'm doing some of that today!
Best of luck:D

Welcome lionround! Smart idea on the 2% bump!
Welcome, LR! I second the good idea on the 2% bump! And since you are just starting in TSP, yet are relatively close to retirement, I suggest you look at putting as much in as you can. Don't forget, over 50's can do catchup contributions, and all contributions are tax deferred so they don't directly hit your net paycheck!
Good Luck!
Randy :)
