nasa1974's Account Talk

So, If you don't list everyone alphabetically that are 100% "S" (including the Premium folks) in the AutoTracker we are number 3 baby. Number 2 if you eliminate the Premium folks.

My 2017 TSP Excel Spreadsheet is ready if anyone is interested. Just send me a private message with your email address and I'll send it to you.

Re: Messing with our TSP again

The "I" fund had a nice run in January. Might be the fund to watch for the next month or two.

Since 2010 the "CSI" funds have done fairly well for the month of February. Let's hope current politics has little affect on the market this month.

February 2016 was pretty volatile with the "S" fund ending at .50%, "C" fund -.12% and "I" fund -2.82%.

Right now I'm staying 100% "S" and will see what happens.

Found this interesting. Below are some snippets from the report.

More feds hit $1 million mark

"Currently almost 10,000 people with millionaire status."

"Another 1.4 million account holders have balances between $50,000 and $249,000."

"As of mid-December 2016, there were 35,161 TSP account holders with balances ranging from $750,000 to $999,000."

Great! Our Government will just use that info to say our benefits are too good and need to be cut.

OK, so I am in that group of 1.4 million account holders with a balance between $50,000 - $249,000. I am also supposedly eligible to retire in 6 years. Given my past TSP performance history I could still be in that group by then, so I won't be retiring. Remember, you have to be able to afford retirement and benefit cuts wont help.

So make sure you can afford retirement before you jump. My wife works at Lowe's with a bunch of disgruntled retirees who had to go back to work because they couldn't afford retirement. It's not a happy situation.

Now that we are in the middle of March here are the April returns. Historically the "I" Fund has done pretty good in the month of April.

Actually, that seasonal strength for the I fund extends back to mid-March. Using my daily data spreadsheet, the I fund has had the best return during the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half of March 54% of the time (7 of 13 years, while the S fund has been the best 3 of those years, and the C fund only twice. That's why I moved to the I fund today even though I've rarely had good results with it.

Looks like I might change out of my sticky pants. "S" fund has struggled since the first of the month and the "I" fund has shown strength. April has shown good numbers for the "I" fund. Everything going on politically around here may be good for the "I" fund. It will be a last minute decision but I still have both IFT's for the month and a fresh 2 for April.

Good luck.

Nasa,
Good luck in whatever decision you make. How do you think the future elections in the EU and elsewhere will impact the I Fund?
