MaStA's Account Talk

Tsp pisses me off...why can't I reset my password on their damn website. Went to do an ift and locked myself out. By the time I got through to someone on the phone it was like 10:02 and of course they can't help you get your ift in for the day. Dumb policies... Being military I don't even think it's beneficial to put my money in the government's lockbox. The lady sounded like a lot of people complain about not being able to reset their password on the website. If mypay allows it why cant tsp? Grr

Man, I hate it when that happens... stupid set up.

I had the same thing happen last month. You're right, it is completely stupid. It keeps in line with the stupid IFT restrictions.

and after seeing what happened today I hate TSP even more...

Military doesn't get matched contributions so here is a question for you civil service folks. If you did not get matched contributions would you still utilize TSP or would you invest your money in something like a traditional IRA? I already do my Roth, but I'm so sick of TSP and the limitations. Is there something I am missing that I should keep TSP for or should I start putting my extra money in something else that I can manage to my own liking? Thanks!

if i didn't get the match 5%, i would put it in a selfdirected ira and use schwab in-house etf's with realtime unlimited trading availability and ~0.25% fund management fees. if i could afford more than the ira limit then i would look around and see if there was a self-directed 401k option and do more of the same.

Very low fees!

Heck being able to make instant purchases/sells could save/earn you a lot more money than those fees I bet. Plus, if you aren't using mutual funds and just invest in stocks you are just paying commission fees which are only $3.95 per trade for me. I'm going to think about this some more, but these restrictions are sickening...
