Markmars Account Talk

This is still just a bump in the road I suspect we will see a rally in November. My numbers are still positive for the year and if we do have a 10% correction it will rally back up fairly quickly.
“Elections have consciences” we will see what happens if we can get a business friendly house and senate that will help remove barriers to cheap energy the market will see new highs.

Timing this market is guaranteed to make you a loser - MarketWatch

While you can make a lot of money selling when the market is high and buying when it is low the ability to pick those two points is almost impossible.
If the market is going down buy if it is going up buy.
S&P is at 1966 today, December 31, 2013 it was 1848, December 31, 2012 it was 1426, December 31, 2011 it was 1257.
You might a have year or two were it is down but it will recover sometimes within a day.

Now you tell me....................

That's true.

Then probably back down at some point, and then up again. I guess there are some guarantees. :D

TSP 3 quarter statements are out. I posted no gains for the quarter as a matter of fact I ended the quarter with about the same as I started it.
That’s OK the stock market is having a fire sale right know and I’m buying on the cheap.:)
I’m still 8% rate of return for the last 12 months!
AutoTracker has me at -2% for this year.

I’m almost back to where I was before the correction, I have added about $25k to my account since then. I bought stocks on sale! I’ll keep riding this horse till retirement if it bucks I just hang on!

I've heard changing contribution allocation isn't needed that much since when you IFT you move your shares around that way?

I used to have my contributions going to G, then I switched to 100% S; I figured if the market is moving up, the money goes right to work, if its going down I'm DCA purchasing at lower prices. I'm due for a sale price purchase on Friday :D

But say you had 100-S fund with your contributions wouldn't you be losing money now with how the market is going?

Only if I move those shares to G before it goes back above the purchase price. Right now I'm buying on sale, will be holding that for some time going forward.

Yeah but say it takes months to go back to the purchase price from before, isn't just holding on the S hurting your account balance now though?

Only if prices continue to go lower and I sell at the bottom. If prices go up, I go with them, if they go down, I buy more. "Buy low (contributions), Sell High (move to G at an apparent top)", repeat.
