Log-In Issues

Things are screwed up, bless you!

OK....give me a time (and day) PDT....if you want to modify the system and have me to try this again. But be warned....I've done all this cache and cookies biz, and that alone never improved anything before.

How about 1:15 today PDT? Right after the market closes?

Actually, we better wait. I have maybe 30 mods installed and I'd probably have to turn them all off, then turn one on at a time, have you clear stuff again, turn on another, etc. It could take hours. We'll have to do it another time. Maybe over the weekend if that's an option. You didn't sound too into it anyway. :)

I'm still working another angle - trying to get the "full site" link in the mobile app (not tapatalk) to work. I'm working with vBulletin and waiting on a response. It is supposed to show the forum as it would on a desktop.

On average, a binary search would be quicker. Instead of "one at a time," you keep cutting the number in half.

Turn off 'the first' 15 ... problem still there? Turn off the next 7 ... problem disappeared. Now, turn back on 3 of those 7 ... so on and so forth.

Things become more complicated if:

There are two or more mods causing the same or similar problems; or,
There are tow or more mods that only cause the problem when they are all on; or worse,
There are one or more combinations of the above.

Forcing 'desktop' usually must also and primarily be done via the browser of the device...in the settings. Google it for the particular device, though it's usually a quick and easy setting (first level in the browser menu).

OK, that's a dead end. The full site link is supposed to bring up your desktop default style, but apparently it doesn't work on a phone (possibly a tablet).

VB suggests I upgrade to version 5 for the best mobile app, but I don't think folks are going to like it. It's a total rewrite of the software so everything will be different. Plus many of the features that we all like will not be available if they haven't been rewritten, by 3rd party programmers, for version 5. And most haven't. Ugh!

Just a kwik checkin to inform you that the site is worse than ever. On any media, phone or desktop. A desktop still requires at least 4 login attempts to see anything, and 4 more if a reply is posted or I navigate. A phone is literally impossible. Tapatalk I could stay on for maybe 5 seconds b4 being kicked back uncontrollably to the prior screen. I am able to read and post in this V Bulletin, but it won't show many attachments . That is all.

What browser are you using? I have Win 8.1 and use Google Chrome, works a bunch better than the one you have use.

OK, thanks for the update. Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas. Well, any ideas that wouldn't completely change the forum and probably bring chaos to others for a while.

If I was having any problem at all, I would be able to debug it more thoroughly, and the fact that I have never have any problems viewing the site on any browser, tells me there's something up with the way you are connecting - whether it's browser settings, IP address, etc. Sorry about that.

I'll try adding your IP to the whitelist again as a last resort.

well..I give this a big "nuh-uh": out of rare circumstance, I was able to log in the first time just today (instead of minimum 4X attempts)...but then....when I pressed reply with quote, it logged me out and told me to log in....which I did, but no quote as you can see. As far as IP address is concerned, I don't know that I have a consistent one - - - I use chrome on a desktop at my workplace (a government computer, Chrome browser) - - - but I've tried this clearing the cache and browsing history on it and it makes NO DIFFERENCE.

The Android phone is a continuing issue. That is my personal phone. Tapatalk will not operate any subforum on this site EXCEPT "report problems"; and I'm not sure I can even type a reply from there.

So I've been trying this "V-bulletin"; typed a reply today - gave me a couple of "token expired" messages that I've never seen before, and eventually allowed me to post something. But where is my post? It was there on the bus, but now that I'm in the office it's gone!

Another issue with V-bulletin is that it isn't showing all the charts - like Bquat's - you had, a couple weeks ago, indicated that you thought you could fix that problem. It's not fixed either.

Now - let's see if I can post this message - since it usually kicks me out, at this step - I'll copy it just in case I have to make additional attempts.

(edit - YUP, it kicked me out - and I had to log in again to see my reply)

Ugh! Frustrating. Sorry. A lot of it may have to do with the gov't connection, but not usre whey the phone is giving such a problem. I don't use an iphone so it's tough for me to test.

I can confirm that chart issue. Bquat continues to use the "attachment" option rather than "insert image" and that's why it's not showing. It could be a security issue on mobile devices with attachments.

Thanks for the info. I'll add your IP address to our firewall, but it may not help since it looks like it's a gov't IP and may be dynamic (changing). But we'll see if it helps.

Hey Tom, I've been having the same problems this evening, along with being logged out about 2/3 of the time when I try responding to a PM or replying in a thread. Matter of fact, I just went to reply to you and the site logged me out again!

PS It just logged me out again when I tried to reply with a quote. My IP shouldn't be changing, as I'm logging in from home on a cable internet connection that usually doesn't change. I had this happen to me this week from my gov't IP, as well.

Happens to me all the time. 90% of the time I remember to copy my posts now before hitting the "post reply" button because that's when it times it me out and I just try again with the text pasted, but that 10% of the time where have I forget sucks because I have to type my post all over again. Been doing that for a while now. Also, if you "Go Advanced" on your reply, it doesn't seem to time out as much and when it does, just hit the back button and resend as it saves your post. Of course, sometimes it times out when you hit the "Go Advanced" button..........

I'm going to try something new to see if it helps - but I can't guarantee it won't get worse instead.

It's very weird because I never have a problem - and I'm close to the west coast and our servers are on the east coast so it's not like I have any advantage. But yes, all very weird and I can imagine frustrating for you all.

Mine is just fine NOW!

I just responded to a PM in Chrome and got an error page.

This page isn’t working Chrome detected unusual code on this page and blocked it to protect your personal information (for example, passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards).Try visiting the site's homepage.

Luckily I was able to use the back button to retrieve the post, plugged it into Firefox and it went fine.

Not good. I'll work on it.

This/My puter is Win 8.1, using Google Chrome and PCmatic AntiVirus. It's been good for a couple of weeks.
