Link / Post Order Problem

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

i was having the same problem with the oldest post coming up first when clicking on a thread too, so i went in to check my setting and sure enough it is still set to show newest posts first. so i tried a little reverse psychology on server gremlin and told it show me oldest first and now it is showing me the newest posts first, so there. obviously the artificial intelligence behind this server is a female.

Settings>General Settings>Thread Display Mode>Linear-Oldest First

unfortunately, it appears that i am not able to update my signature line, i have tried several times. is anybody else having this issue?

At least for me, the settings are working as they should. "newest first" puts the newest posts on Page 1. and "Oldest First" puts the oldest on Page 1. The problem is... when you click on a thread it takes you to the last page, regardless of what you put for a setting. Basically what you changed was whether the last page has the newest posts (aka Oldest first), or the oldest posts (aka newest first). What we (or at least I) want is to go to Page 1 every time... but beggars can't be choosers I guess!

Thanks burro. I'll give that a try. I really wasn't happy with Tom's explanation as my premium service directs me to check the forum and not rely on email...Der springen werks ist definitely kaput!

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Not sure what's up, but all I get is a blank screen when I try to access the Forum through the menu bar at the top of TSTalk Home page. Only way I've found in is via "latest posts" on the home page. I'm using Firefox ... will give IE a try.

I do not have that trouble when accessing the forum through a PC, but i do get that exact same error when accessing it on my android phone. i prefer the 'full website' view and always when i click the forum link i get shuttled to a vbulletin mobile type skin where i click a plus sign and then scroll down to the bottom to pick 'full site'. this also takes me to the blank 'page not found'. the only way i can access the forum on my phone is to login through vbulletin but then it seems pointless because i can't find anything on mobile menu or see the favorites/30 last posts, etc.

not having a usably formatted tsptalk forum on my phone is right up there on par with quitting cigarettes, dang unpleasant let me tell you what.

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

I've noticed that one for a long, long time and unfortunately I don't think that one will ever be fixed. I base that on how it calculates posts and threads, etc., and any time there is a deleted or moved post it would be affected. There are scripts that run a couple of times a month that is suppose to readjust, but I haven't seen it help 100% of the time.

All I would suggest is I wouldn't rely 100% on the forum for your signals. Use the email alerts and premium reports.

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

When I click to open an account talk and I've tried several with the same results, sometimes it goes to the oldest page and sometimes it goes to 5 or 6 pages before the oldest page. However, it never goes to the newest post on that account talk.

Tom please get this feature fixed ASAP. For a moment today, I thought my premium service was issuing a signal change until I realized I was looking at the oldest page. That could have been a disaster and a waste of a precious IFT...:(

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Time out has always been 60 minutes, and like userque, I usually stay logged in. But I have also been logged out here and there the last few days. Could be the servers rebooting, but it has been a day or two since I did one.
Ah, maybe I did get hit by a rebooting server. It isn't happening today.

I tried Khotso's path to here (homepage menu bar to forum) and had no problems. It's strange that different people are seeing different things.

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Checking things out using Firefox. Clicking on the links under "Latest Post" it takes me to the very last page not the most recent post. If I go to the "TSP Talk Forums" area and choose a specific thread I am taken to the first page or the most recent post in that thread. However, if I post a reply to that thread it is accepted but I am redirected to the last page of the thread.

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Nope. IE didn't work either. Got a window that said web page not responding. Got here via "latest post" on home page and then selecting "New Posts" on lower menu bar above.

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Has the interval for the inactivity timeout been changed. I used to be able to go 15 - 20 minutes and still be logged in. Now I often don't have time to complete a post after logging in before I need to log in again.

I haven't seen anybody else complain about this one so it may be on my end -- proxy server stripping off cookies or something. :suspicious:

P.S. After posting this, it went back to the oldest page first, but the edit went to this post.

Been logged in for weeks myself.

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Forum seems to be working properly now, you are directed towards latest post.
Thanks Tom !!

Mine still goes to the oldest page first, FYI.

LOL. Weird stuff still going on. One person sees one thing, others see another.

I should be installing the new "Like" feature this weekend so we'll start this mess all over again next week. :)

CrabClaw.....Mine still goes to the oldest page first, FYI.

When I clicked on this thread, page from 4/17 was displayed.. I think I'll take a break from the Forum today and let Tom work it out..

Re: Possible Down Time and a Change This Weekend

Reply with quote test successful. The only issue I still see is being taken to the oldest posts page instead of the newest.

I think that is where my problem was happening. When I posted, it took me back to oldest page. I didn't realize it and I didn't see my posts. Tricky!

I copied several of the posts referring to the post order issue to keep it one place...

The recent change in the software seems to have messed with the precision of the links and they are not going exactly to the post we might think all the time. I'll be working on it...
