Beautiful, absolutely stunning. I lived in ferndale,wa from 92'-94' and from our second story balcony to the left we could see mount baker which was abot 30 miles away, and to the right we could see the ocean, which up there the water is like a sheet of glass sometimes because of the islands. I have lived in guatemala also, but NOTHING ever compared to northeastern wa state. Hands down bar none my favorite place in the world.
We still have good friends that live in Ferndale. That pocket near the US/Canada border is a unique area.
You will like this photo showing the context of the Lookout. It will be on the National Register of Historic Places soon. My friend adopted it after he found out it had no caretaker and was in peril of being torn down due to dangers of disrepair.
The last 3 miles is a steep hike! 4300' vertical overall in 8 miles if I remember right. It is open first come, first serve year round.
