KevinD's Account Talk

As you can see I have no idea what I'm doing but I thought this little self imposed exercise might help me learn more about the TSP and the funds available to us. So far I've been in L2020 and watching American Idol and NASCAR...oh and Entertainment Tonight.

Anybody see any flaws in my reasoning? :D

nope. Using logical choices only works when the stock market is acting logical - only it rarely, if ever, works from logic.

If you're not sure why you're making a move then why move? I'd leave the gambling in Vegas and not use any of your 2 IFTs for a move to G, if it can be avoided. You want to study and know why you make a move BEFORE you make them.

You could always decide who you think the Board leaders are, figure out why and how their moves are based, and adopt their strategies.

Kevin, you can move to G anytime. Some people make 5 or 6 moves a month. The first two moves count towards the IFT limits. If you are still vested in any fund other than G you can move to G anytime you desire and in as small amount as you desire. As JTH suggested don't waste your second IFT moving to G unless you are doing it for safety or to capture gains. IMHO.

I've often wondered what it would feel like resting on the lilly pad - but have never had enough courage to seek that particular safety. I don't like missing any of the action no matter in which direction - that's just me.

I don't know enough to move to any one fund for any length of time. In fact I feel it would be foolhardy of me (because of my lack of knowledge) to do anything other than jump in and right back out. Then I wouldn't have any IFT's left to possibly cause myself REAL grief.

I've bookmarked this page but haven't read much there yet.

I have also bookmarked this page that Tom posted. (thanks Tom)

I've been trying to learn how to read the charts. Working on understanding moving averages and support/resistance. This stuff ain't easy but it sure has been fun learning and hanging out here on this MB. I call you people my imaginary friends to my wife...

I just feel I learn more by doing than by studying. And if I use up my 2 IFT's I can't do too much damage.

Anybody notice my new avatar? :D

OK. Somebody help this n00b out.

What happens over the weekend? Anything? Nothing?

What market is the first to open Monday morning? Somewhere in Asia? Somewhere in the Pacific? Australia/NZ?

Whats up with "after hours" trading? And whats with "futures" trading?

Just trying to learn more about how it all works.

Thanks in advance.

Everyone waits to see how Paulson and his crew put together the program and get it going. There will be speculation and swings, IMO until the program goes into action. Then there may be a sell the news mentality again.

Sorry. I should have been more specific about the generality of my question. :D

I was wondering about what happens in the markets over any given weekend not specifically with the crap sandwich we've been served recently.

Let me try again. New Z., Aust., and Japan will open first I would guess this will be positive news for them.

After hours trading is just for smucks like me to scalp some cheap trade or take late day profits.

Show,
Thanks for the futures link from CNBC. I will post another link that I use.

http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/stocks/futures.html

It is from Bloomberg and has a 15 minute delay, but when you are flying blind it also can be useful. Click on refresh every so often. I would like to know from your experience if the link you posted is also delayed?

Futures won't be a issue until late Sunday and Monday morning. Here is one link I use. I would hope they are green Sunday night.

What I want

What I want.

I want to fly to San Francisco and rent a Goldwing and ride the Pacific Coast Highway with my wife on the back. I want to go to the Kentucky Derby. I want to see the redwoods. I want to go to Airventure at Oshkosh. I want to lease a nice condo in Flagler Beach from November to April. I want to see a game at as many major league baseball stadiums as I can fit in to a season. I want to see the Grand Canyon. I want to go to Alaska. I want to do a Gulf Coast lighthouse tour. I want to do the Blue Ridge Parkway from one end to the other in a convertible. I want to go to the Indianapolis 500. I want to go to a MotoGP race at Laguna Seca. I want to visit my niece in Nice France. I want to ride a motorcycle through the Alps. I want to see the Cliffs of Dover. I want to snow ski and water ski in the same week. I want to jeep through the outback. I want to see the Red Bull Air Race and the Reno Air Races. I want to go to what was East Germany. I want to see the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, the Pyramids and the Acropolis. I want to stop when I see an alligator farm or a sign for some caverns. I want a lobster from a roadside stand in Main and some boiled peanuts from a stand in north Georgia. I want to pick up shells on the beach and watch shooting stars from a mountain top bald.

I have so many things I want. I could go on and on... :o :)

Kevin, sometimes Google can be your friend too. For example, type in "after hours trading" came up with the following link. I don't yet do investing outside of mutual funds and TSP myself, but the after hours trading activity can sometimes explain changes you see in the am relative to what you saw at market close the day before. BTW, welcome to the MB. :)
