K0nKuzh0n's Account Talk

Hey Guys,

I've been a reader of this forum for a little over a year now. I hardly ever post, mainly because I don't have anything of use to say, but I'm learning!

In my low 20's. Graduated from college in 2010 and started working for the DOD last summer as an Electrical Engineer doing Avionics.

Figured I'd start a thread for my account, if nothing else I can use it as a journal to talk to myself. Although I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, and there sure seems to be plenty of smart and experienced minds around here to supply answers!

You'll likely see me taking more risks, mainly because I'm so young and new to this I'm in it for the learning experience right now, not for the #'s.

Although I've gotten pretty lucky so far this year. Even though I had to ride out both the Japan tsunami and this most recent correction, I'll be at about 9% for the year after today. Prior August 1st I was #2 on the tracker, Chomping at the bit to get my new IFTs at the start of the month. I told myself I would get out if the S&P 500 managed to close below the 200 day EMA, which it did, but the reality of having to sit out the rest of August proved to be too risky to lock in the loss, and so I rode down, and down...and down. I locked in about an 8% loss today with a move to the G fund.

So there's my kick off post! I am VERY eager to learn and expand my knowledge of trading, so if you guys have an articles or books you suggest, throw them my way!

Sorry to hear you locked in the -8% but hey your positive for the year, congrats.
Welcome.

Welcome - youve had good moves and gone down and worked your way back up, Ive been watching - mainly because your USER ID really sticks out on the board! lol!

thanks guys!

Today was certainly an interesting day, just adding to the confusion as to where the market was headed. Futures stayed true and the market opened down sharply. After that there are some very distinct up, down, up, down, up, down trends throughout the day. Probably the biggest concern being its failed attempt at getting back above 1200. It got there a little after noon but did not last long at all. I'm getting the feeling people are just sitting, waiting for something to happen. Such as a statement from the Fed. Strong possibility that the 50 day EMA will cross the 200 day EMA on the S&P tomorrow.

There seems to be a very wide and uniform spread of what people are thinking. Some people are preparing for a deeper crash, some people are waiting for us to challenge new highs for the year, and everywhere in between. Until all the middle men pick a side, I don't expect either extremes to happen, but things could snowball really quick. Every body hold on!

Welcome to the boards! I did not know you were new here...I have also been noticing you on the AT. Congrats on doing so well in this tough market! What a great time to be starting out...good chance to be buying in at low prices.

Welcome aboard. How did you come up with your name?

Good question! It might make more sense if you knew to pronounce the Z as an S (backwards S). It was my gamer name-back when I had time to play games, mainly Counter-Strike, and just kinda stuck. Its a geeked-out way to write Concussion.

I hate having usernames with #'s at the end, and needless to say no one is fighting me for k0nkuzh0n

Nice, makes sense now. At least the folks falling behind you on the AT feel the "K0nKuzh0n" as you go by... ;)

Makes sense. Thanks

I can't believe I'm back in the top 15th (well exactly 15th right now). I very glad I got out when I did after Monday. Even if there is a big rally rebound, I don't think it would have been worth the mental roller coaster.

I agree, and wish I had bailed on Monday too...

I was very tempted to buy some stocks on USAA this afternoon right before close, but with that account I'm looking more for longer terms, and while its feeling like tomorrow will have a pretty good rally, I'm not convinced we have bottomed yet this month. Buddy of mine was saying the past two days was likely a lot of stock pinning going on due to options expiring. Which would lead me to believed stocks are oversold for the short-term.

Things are starting to feel a little bit like June of this year where the market tested the 200 day EMA twice in a few days, rallied, came back down and tested it a third time, then took off; Whereas in this case it would be the 1120-1125 level, not the 200 day EMA. Probably a far fetched comparison but I can't get that feeling that things could take off for a week, regardless of whether it is warranted or not, out of the back of my mind...

Also, why are people still waiting on Ben to announce QE3? He already said they were going to keep rates low till 2013. Isn't that exactly what QE is for? Keeping rates low?

Good bye Hurricane Irene!

As I was saying in the thread for Irene updates, I live in Carteret County, which is where Irene made first land fall.

I live far enough away from the ocean and rivers that storm surge wasn't an issue, and high enough ground that flooding is not an issue. We got like 20 inches of rain in 3 days last year from a tropical storm and my place didn't come close to flooding. I live in a condo neighborhood so there are no trees bigger than 12 feet in the area, so that wasn't an issue.

I was fairly prepared, as I usually run my fridge and freezer on the lowest settings, but cranked them up to the highest, assuming I was going to lose power. Same with the AC, cranked the place down 7 degrees Friday. Dumped the ice out into a foam box that was left over from a Omaha Steaks order (I knew it would come in handy!) and put all my drinks in there so I wouldn't have to open my fridge as much.

I first lost power at 7:30am on Friday. From then to 10:30pm I lost power 25 times! After 5 i unplugged everything as I don't image the constant on/off/on/off was being appreciated by my electronics.

It went off for good around 1am Saturday. I counted about 27 total power outages. I finally got power back at 3pm Today (Sunday). so 38 hours without power!

Hope everyone survived the storm! And just wanted to take a moment to say my heart goes out to the utility workers working 16 hour shifts day and night, away from their families, likely not even in their own state, to restore power to everyone else!

Well said! +1 to your reputation meter........... :) I think the electric companies themselves can be shysters, but I'm sure the men and women in the field are doing what they can and don't get enough credit.
