Just curious as to how many of you are just moving your money around in TSP? Or, do most of you have money that you invest in private outside stock markets? If you have money that you work with in the outside markets, why do you do that and how do you learn to do it?

I also want to apologize if I have posted this in the wrong place... I couldn't really tell where to place just a question.

Thanks for your input.

Questions are OK here SQ!
I for one am only in the TSP, but lots are in stocks also and will be happy to answer any questions you have.
Best of luck!:D

When I left the gov't in '08 I took about 75% of my TSP and put it in an IRA so I could trade / invest in stocks and ETF, and not have the same trading limits. I left 25% in the TSP.

I am sure there are copious websites and books to help learn. It is not as active as TSP Talk, but we talk more about this over on ETF Talk.

secret squirrel,

I buy stocks to build income with their dividends to eventually support my life style. The stock market is no where near fiduciary and is full of both rewards and risks. But it sure can be fun in a bull market - like today for instance.

Both TSP and SDIRA (Self Directed Individual Retirement Account, with USAA) for me. I can only move TSP around twice a month, but I try to swing trade with my IRA. This site, and links to many others, have helped me to start to understand how all this works.

Good luck !!

Search to find the answer and if you can't, ask away !!!

There are a lot of very informed people on this site (not me) so stick around and learn !!
