JTH's Account Talk

JTH - Just wanted to express my appreciation for all the great charts you provide throughout the forum. They are extremely informative, especially to one as myself, who just doesn't make the time to "chart" from other sources.

Again Thanks! Kevin

Thank you, it's my pleasure!

Good evening

I don't have much to contribute tonight, I WAPS tested today and as a result I have fried the circuitry in my brain. The American Markets held up rather well today, better than my expectations. Looking at closing prices only, we can see price is losing momentum, the moves are getting smaller. Take that for what it is, I've already called the top, if I'm right I'll be a hero, if I'm wrong then it's just another day of the week. :D

What rank did you test for JTH? I'll be putting TSgt on May 1st and I can't wait! :)

MSgt. Congrats TSgt is such a pivotal rank, a good TSgt. has the influence to change things for the better on both ends. :)

By the way, I was @ Holloman for 8 years!

Most definitely. Where did you work on Holloman? I just got here on July 31st. It isn't too bad here so far, but I listen to people whine and cry about it on a daily basis. One SSgt in my section has been here seven years and he is pretty disgruntled about it. I try telling people that things are not always greener on the other side, but if they want to get out no one is stopping them. As a recruiter I had a ton of prior service members come into my office trying to get back in and it is pretty difficult, but I did the best I could for them.

Getting back in is difficult, how so? Just curious. Congrats on the promotion btw! I only made it to SSgt before getting out (did 6 years, yeah i was a 6 year sucker haha), some of the best technicians in my field I've ever known wore the TSgt rank. You'll have a lot to live up to, but I'm sure you're looking forward to it :)

I worked Comm. I didn't mind the area, plenty to do if you wanted to, people say they want to leave but if they really wanted to leave they could always find a short tour :)

I did that to get out of Fort Hood, was assigned to a TACP unit as a radio maintenance guy. Wanted another assignment after 2 years there, as a guy from Hawaii I hated being that land-locked. Though going to Corpus Christi on 3 day weekends to hit the surf was alright, just a 300 mile trip to hit some crap surf really made me miss home more.

There were some cute latinas there though, that was cool.

I've notice more than once folks from Hawaii don't care for the lower 48s, it's like they get home sick. TACP, good stuff that's the bread and butter!

Prior service slots are very limited. When looking at direct duty (going back into your original career field) is based solely on how many years time in service you had and there has to be a spot for that AFSC/TIS. If not then you get choices of very limited retraining options which typically include PJ, CCT, TACP, and a few others. They look at your past EPRs, have to take the ASVAB again, interview, etc.

Thank you for the congrats! I inherited a pretty messed up section. Shortly after arriving here the TSgt section chief tried committing suicide. He is back now working at the squadron, but he may be coming back to the section while his med board is processing. He isn't sure if he is going to get booted or if he will be able to stay. This was the second time this has occurred with him though so things aren't looking too good as far as him staying around. With me being out of this career field for ~4 years I am doing my best to relearn what I have forgotten. It's all good...I'm getting through it. :) I am actually taking my 7-level CDC EOC on Tuesday. Normally you need to be a 7-level to sew TSgt on, but since I made the rank serving in a special duty I am exempt from that requirement. I will be going to 7-level school in September as well.

I need like seven more classes to finish my BS in Computer Science. I have contemplated putting a package together for OTS, but we will see. My last two years in recruiting I was the OTS recruiter so I am very familiar with putting packages together, etc.

That's a messed up workcenter, I can't imagine moral being too good under those conditions, I'm surprised they haven't removed him. Sounds like you know what you're doing, I'd go for the OTS if you plan on staying in, I regret not going for it, coulda shoulda woulda, too late now, I'm too old!

Naw, I did it at 40...

The Air Force's cutoff for OTS is 35 even if you are prior service. Now if you are a doctor the age restrictions are a little bit higher I do believe. I'm only 27 so I have some more time to figure things out. ;)

I'm not in the Air Force :D

Legally, you can commission up to, but prior to your 42nd birthday. Each service, and each community (pilot, nuke, Intel, etc) can pick their own restrictions.

Congratulations to both of you. I was up for SSgt but took a 6 month early out when they offered it. Vietnam was winding down and they were reducing the overall force. Real glad it worked out that way. Got discharged from the Air Force (SAC) 4/16/74 and started at NASA 5/20/74.

Congrats MaStA

What is your AFS?

JTH, what was your AFS?

Old fart being nosy.

I was a 304x0 then a 2E1x1 from 72 to 96. Lots of changes in those years, BISS, CCTV, SATCOM...

I hear some called the career field SWAT later but never figured out why telemetry was a seperate thing. It's just a channel.

Guess I would be a 3D something now. RF systems? Where would SONET fit in?

FWIW, it seemed like in the 80s that you sat forever as a SSGT, made TSGT and then quickly became MSGT. Maybe the PFE/SKT were the same then?

I didn't see many TSGTs in the field until the 90s.

Congats on the line number. Don't go out to celebrate it and drive home. I have seen that happen!

Good luck with that worcenter situation.

Thanks PO! Thankfully I don't drink lol. I found out I made it last year, but waiting for your line number to come up is the longest wait of your life it seems. My AFSC is 2R0X1 - Maintenance Management Analysis.
