Hmm, well I hope I am not in when that damn breaks. Cat's don't like to get wet.

Anyone live in the vicinity of Mobile, AL? I'll be at the Robert Trent Jones Trail at Magnolia Grove on June 25th if anyone wants to do a meet and greet.

Gonna do a little golfing?..I love those links there..almost as nice as Augusta...Can't get away from work, or else I'd join ya at the 19th hole.

Ha! I don't golf. Last time I went golfing with some old timers from my navy days, I looked like I was putt putt bowling. Sometimes they would conveniently forget it was my turn. ;swear I'm just trying to get out more and meet new/old friends along the way. Taking my daughter to a local qualifier for the Drive Chip & Putt Championship. Not expecting to qualify but rather do a practice run for next year. Let her get her feet wet. She's doing a little crash course with private lessons right now.

Maybe a future LPGA champion..gotta start young though...yer on the right track:1244:

I just want her to try something new. After that, is up to her. If she makes the gymnastics team, she won't have time for golf anyway. Having spent most of my adult life in the military and now a single parent, I haven't spent much time with the kids. This is the last chance I have to make it right, albeit only one of my kids.

No real money or future in gymnastics. Not discouraging you, I think towards the future as you have building a career..monkey bars will get you long arms but a short bank account..(this is a money forum, so that's why I'm talking this way..:cheesy:)...But some big bucks to be had in pro golf if she's good at it..just saying....Hang in there mom, I know yer a good one.

So a couple of (or three) years back, I created a pretend portfolio with pretend money :D. I mean, haven't any of you ever thought, "I wish I had X amount of money to invest just to see what happens"? Especially when the market is crashing? Well, that's what I did. I picked a year (2008) and I invested 100k equally into the best rated (per The Street) companies in each sector at the time. This is what I ended up with:

Hope you can zoom in.

Now if I could just recall where I hid that 100k....

Ok, so even I can't see it. But do you see all that green? :D

Cost Basis: $100,000.00
Mkt Value: $526,626.78
Gain: $398,253.08
Gain%: 398.25%

I created another "pretend" portfolio at the start of 2015 and like the other porfolio, I made an initial investment of 100k and just let it ride (buy and hold). Currently it has Mkt Value of $124,388 (21.26% gain). That's over 24K in a little over a year. Not as exciting as the first portfolio but still very good. I think Birch was on to something.

We worked with a notional $10K (?) in my Engineering Economics class using the Value Line Survey (in 1986, before the internet ). I remember making about 25% that semester.
