From “The Hill”:

“Meeting Ends- parties point fingers

Democrats, Republicans and administration officials left a meeting at the White House pointing fingers at each other and seemingly no closer to averting a government shutdown at the end of Tuesday.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), standing with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), said leaders “have very large differences” on key issues, including the health care provisions Democrats have been demanding and Trump’s ability to claw back previously appropriated funds.”

This is not looking good. Shutdown tomorrow night at midnight is looking very likely.

The senate needs 60 votes to pass the bill, I believe.

Grok:

To pass a spending bill (also known as an appropriations bill) in the US Senate, a simple majority vote—typically 51 votes (assuming all 100 senators are present and voting)—is required for final passage.

However, Senate rules allow for unlimited debate unless ended by invoking cloture, which requires a three-fifths majority (60 votes) to overcome a filibuster and advance the bill to a final vote.

In practice, especially for contentious funding measures like continuing resolutions to avoid government shutdowns, 60 votes are often necessary to ensure the bill can proceed, as they are subject to potential filibusters.

Note that certain budget-related bills passed via the reconciliation process are exempt from the filibuster and can pass with just 51 votes, but this does not apply to standard spending bills.

Which means the republicans have to negotiate with and secure 7 (D) votes.
(Senate is 53-47 R.)

Senate R’s don’t have that- and they refuse to negotiate, so it’s pretty clear now that the government is going to shut down.

Come midnight tomorrow, time expires. I don’t see a change of heart on anybody’s side to deal with the issue that a negotiation and compromise must occur, and that appears unlikely in the next 24 hours.
