I Fund for July 2009

Tuesday EAFE final of +$0.2350
minus Tuesday FV (previous day) of -$0.1300 = +$0.1050
minus mystery money of -$0.0060 = +$0.0990 final :)

What is what you are entering all mean, as long as the end number is positive that is good right? Enlighten me...
Zac,

The I-Fund, which I think you are in, is calculated on more than just an index like the C or S. It takes in a few items contained in the Fund sheet at www.tsp.gov.

You will notice they also estimate the value of the dollar at the time to determine FV (Fair Value). The dollar index usually affects things because your investments are "overseas" (non-US Dollar currencies).

Corvette postes these and estimates (almost to the 4th decimal point) correctly as it progresses during the day until market close.

And does a FINE JOB at that!!!!! :D

Wednesday EAFE final of +$0.0348
plus Wednesday FV (previous day) of +$0.0000 = +$0.0348
plus mystery money of +$0.0002 = +$0.0350 final :)

I think the peak in the I fund was around $26.33 in 2007 - we have 10 more points to go to reach that level. So you tell me if you jumped to soon. The I fund found its bottom of $10.29 on March 9th this year.

His question was fundamental to say the least however I'm having difficulty timing the I fund myself. I've made $20K this past week being fully vested n the fund but the ISHARES MSCI EAFE doesn't seem to jibe with the state of the international markets/currencies today. I must be missing a big piece of the puzzle.

I read your posts Birch amoung others every day and I think he was looking for a little more insight than to "let it ride"...as am I. Being so close to the end of the month with fresh IFT's available I would rather side step some profit loss. So that being said, anyone have any insight to the short to mid term future of the I fund? Appreciate any opinions.

Funny thing too...I put all my money i was keeping in the G fund (around $4500) in the I fund on 8 March this year so i have made over 50% return.

You cannot use the $26.33 as a benchmark. The world has changed since 2007. The real estate markets have evaporated a lot of wealth.

Your thinking is like a person that paid $500,000 for a house. The house is now worth $200,000 and the owner is holding on to house. If he live long enough, the price might reach $500,000 again. It may also never reach that amount in 50 years.
