I have had 25% of my TSP in the I fund for the past year (unfortunately). The rest is in the S and C funds (more bad news). I just wonder if it is better to move the I fund balance to the C and S considering the US market will probably turn around before the asian and european markets. Any sugestions are appreciated.

Since you have yet to get a response to your question, my answer would be “I just don’t know”, but don’t let this bother you because we’re not the only ones in this boat.

We’re all studying the charts and listening earnestly to the “experts” on TV who report the latest bad news indicators. We look back into history to see if this ever happened before, and then try to predict how it will all play out this time around. Obviously, this hasn’t got us far lately, since the recent causes of the current economic crisis stem from a series of bad, unethical financial schemes of money-lenders*, real estate tycoons* and of course, politicians*.
(Big-shot crooks* - We need to invent a chart that follows those guys)

You have already ridden this down-cycle for a year or so now, fully invested, with 25% in the I-fund and 75% in the S and C funds. I don’t believe it will matter whether you stay in the I-fund or move that portion to the other funds. All three funds are roughly at 5-year lows, so how could anybody know which one fund will beat the others back to the top? I can’t.

I’m not fully invested, but I hold shares in both the C and the I-fund, and I’m letting it ride. (I’m retired) “History” says they will all go back up, sooner or later. You should just do what feels right to you. Good luck with that.

I do not think your thinking will work.

If US markets go up, the dollar will probably drop and help the I fund rise. The I fund should rise faster than either the C or S fund.

If you are still working, I would be putting some money in the G fund to diversify. The markets may still go down another 20%.

early Monday EAFE estimate of +$0.7504
minus FV Monday (previous) of -$0.2500 = +$0.5004

dollar down 1.03% = 85.92

Europe is up more than 5%

looks like a big up day for the I fund so far

Monday EAFE estimate of +$0.9094
minus FV Monday (previous) of -$0.2500 = +$0.6594

dollar down 1.22% = 85.77

Europe was up more than 6%

looks like a big up day for the I fund so far :)

Monday EAFE final of +$0.9094
minus FV Monday (previous) of -$0.2500 = +$0.6594
minus mystery money of -$0.0660 = +$0.5934 final :)

so let me get this straight, If I transfer my shares from the I fund to the to g fund by 12/09/08 12EST I'd move at 13.34 a share or will it be whatever the fund is 12/10/08 plus the +FV or -FV is the next day?

You get the 13.34 price if you sold before 8-Dec-08 12EST.

If you transfer shares from the I fund to the to g fund by 12/09/08 12EST, you will get the closing price for tomorrow.

There appears no FV from Monday the prior day. A FV for Tuesday is unknown right now.

Your thinking is 1 day off.

Did ya'll ever get the 7 cents from Thanksgiving Day ?

We actually were missing about 26 cents for Thanksgiving. I carried the 26 cents for a few days and deleted 7 cents a few days later. We got about 19 cents for Thanksgiving.

Today is another close call. Is it 6.6 cents FV or 6.6 cents mystery money?

Tuesday EAFE final of +$0.1338
minus FV Tuesday (guess) of -$0.2000 = -$0.0662

dollar up 0.20% = 85.81
