Hurricane Tracker 2007/2011

Re: Hurricane Tracker 2007

I'm flying out of Washington DC on Friday morning, so I should be able to miss the storm… It looks like Irene won't be a Huge Hurricane at this time… My brother who works in Miami is going to fly his Cessna 182 North early this week as he only has a Tee Hanger in South Florida… Too bad this storm is not headed for Texas as they need the Rain!! My other brother lives in Jacksonville Florida and has never risen out a Hurricane before.

Being from California, I'd never experienced any hurricanes or typhoons until I moved to Okinawa. We had one back in May that ripped down half the trees in the forest adjacent to our house, and rattled our walls so hard I thought for sure our windows would break. While we were in the States earlier this month, there was another one that lasted almost 3 days! Glad to have missed it. It cleared out some more trees and left us with a clearer view of the Pacific!

I hope you and your brothers stay safe, AG!

Re: Hurricane Tracker 2007

I was stationed in Norfolk VA and we’ve had a couple Hurricanes back in the 1990‘s.. This persuaded me to invest in a good ole Honda Generator which I still own. I rode out Hugo on an Aircraft Carrier a good distance from the eye, but we did some Rockin N Rolling... Also rode out a very large one while serving on the USS Enterprise in the South Pacific... The winds were so strong we were breaking chains on one of our F14 Tomcats on the flight deck... LOL... I also deployed a couple of times for the Feds in Texas to repair damage after Katrina, etc.... So, I respect their power...

Re: Hurricane Tracker 2007

I was going back into Stocks Aug 22[SUP]nd[/SUP], but changed my mind at the last minute due to concerns over Hurricane Irene. I don’t think it will turn into a major storm, but when I seen the Weather channel post it could be a CAT 2 or 3, that was just a little too much risk for my account, especially since I have a negative 5.3 YTD!!!... I still have one IFT left and I’m ready to pull the trigger later this month...:cool:

Re: Hurricane Tracker 2007

Looks like the track is shifting slightly to the right, more out to sea.

Keep it up there Nnuut!

Re: Hurricane Tracker 2007

it looks like it will hit that cold front later in the week and help push it over a little… I'm flying out of DC on Friday… They had a pretty major earthquake earlier this afternoon and they let our class depart a couple hours early to make sure the building is ok…

Just what I need to hear! Not knowing what we may have heard about the earthquake, my son called to let us know he was okay in Leesburg.
However, my 15 yo grandson is riding out Irene, as the cruise ship he is on (thank you, ex-in-laws!) is circling around out in the Bahamas waiting for the seas to calm. Getting this info third hand is unsettling! :worried:

Grandma, Do you know what ship your grandson is on? I might be able to give you a website or two to check status.

I think it is one of Royal Carribean's - it is a new ship, this is the first cruise out for it. They are/were supposed to be into St Thomas today. My son is getting a root canal at the moment - maybe he'll call back later to clarify...
Thank you for what-ever you can find out... :)

Hope this helps. This informatioin from CruiseCritic.com as of today. http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=4583

Royal Caribbean
Monarch of the Seas will not call on CocoCay, the line's private Bahamian island, Tuesday. The ship, which left Port Canaveral Monday on a four-night Bahamas cruise, is in Nassau today and will spend the next two days at sea before returning to Port Canaveral Friday.

Majesty of the Seas will not be able to call on CocoCay Wednesday. Instead, the ship is sailing directly to Key West, where it will arrive at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and stay overnight until 6 p.m. on Thursday. Majesty is scheduled to conclude its four-night Bahamas and Florida cruise in Miami on Friday.

Royal Caribbean reversed the itinerary for Oasis of the Seas, which left Fort Lauderdale on Saturday for a week-long Western Caribbean cruise. The ship visited Cozumel on Monday; is spending Tuesday at sea; calling on Falmouth, Jamaica on Wednesday; and visiting Labadee, the line's private peninsula in Haiti, on Thursday. Oasis will spend Friday at sea before returning to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday as scheduled.

Freedom of the Seas, which left Sunday from Port Canaveral on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise, is sailing a reversed itinerary. The ship is now calling on Cozumel (Tuesday), Grand Cayman (Wednesday), Falmouth, Jamaica (Thursday) and Labadee (Friday).

Oasis' sister ship, Allure of the Seas, is visiting all the ports originally scheduled on its week-long Caribbean cruise, but in a slightly different order. The ship will visit Nassau, Bahamas on Saturday (August 27) instead of Monday (August 22). Visits to St. Thomas (Wednesday) and St. Maarten (Thursday) will take place as planned.

Royal Caribbean has scrambled the order for Serenade of the Seas' seven-night Southern Caribbean cruise, which left from San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Sunday. The ship is now visiting Aruba (Tuesday), Curacao (Wednesday), St. Kitts (Friday) and St. Thomas (Saturday).

Thank you much, NASA! That really helped - I can see the Virgin Islands are aawaay east of Irene!! :D

ok - got it - thanx, PO ! It certainly is interesting -
Apparently the group had some rough seas, but tolerated before docking at St. Thomas. At one of the beach parties, then, the crew didn't label the two different containers of kool-aide, and one of the teenage cousins really took a liking to the vat with the rum addition!
