Huge Solar Flare today

Wow! the Sun hurled, bet that would have vaporized a few planets or moons if too close.

The beauty of a huge mass such as the SUN..most of the solar particles got sucked right back into the SUN via the immense gravity..only thing that really hits the Earth, is the light 7 minutes later..so you really are looking at the past..

Amazingly, Stars and stuff millions/billions of light years away that we see today (via telescopes) are ancient history..by the time we actually see them, they are millions/billions of years old..so theoretically we could see the beginning of the Universe as it happened if it originated a ga-zillion light years away from us..

But hey, I ramble…But ya..cool video

Huge solar flare today--

Another view of it here:

Looks like there will be an impact tomorrow evening on the earth's magnetic field- look for possible "Northern Lights" tomorrow in northern latitudes.

Thanks for the really cool link!!

I copied this off a NASA website concerning this event...
Although not aimed directly at the Earth, the ejection should deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field during the late hours of Wednesday or Thursday, NASA said, and may provide sky watchers with observable auroras.

This Solar Cycle 24 is supposed to peak around 2011 / 2012 and its good news for Ham Radio types who enjoy HF communications... I will have to dust off my old Kenwood TS850 and put up a 20 Meter Antenna for a little DX fun...
