Once upon a time...this is no sh*t...not either a fairy tail nor a war story but a true story. A tech rep for a piece of equipment I used to maintain was named John Goff. His business card showed his name as John (Jack) Goff. at the bottom he listed a phone number and stated "ask for Jack Goff". Whenever I did have to call him I would ask the person who answered the phone for John Goff. They would usually reply "oh you mean Jack Goff?". I guess it sounds different to South Carolinians.
