Hello TSP World, on a day the world was supposed to end...

This is my VERY FIRST POST and my first interaction with TSP Talk. I am retired Air Force and have been in Civil Service for about 8 years. I'll be honest, I feel REAL DUMB for not knowing about TSP Talk and taking control of my account from DAY 1! A very good friend told me about it a month ago. The strategies you guys/gals share and use have already paid dividends in just my first month of transferring allocations. Thank You...

Real quick about my user name. I have 13 year old twin boys who play travel soccer at a very high level and they are basically draining my short term savings for love of the game. Travel costs (gas/hotels) training fees, tournaments, etc. can get real expensive real quick! But we truly do love it and they will likely play the game in college and maybe beyond. So it is somewhat of an investment in them. Anyway, my TSP4Soccer efforts are to make sure I am not in the poor house after retirement and an investment in my future while distributing my current liquid funds across the country playing soccer!

May everyone have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year! See you on the other side of the cliff! I hope!!!

TSP4soccer, Welcome aboard. This is a great place to learn.

I understand your soccer enthusiasm. I coached girls rec soccer for 8 years and coached/managed a girls high school team for 7 years. Good luck.

Marty

Welcome and thank you for your service (I'm Air Force too)!

I see you have your hands full with twins and are actively a great parent by endorsing and supporting their efforts.....Take the information here and train them early, so when they make the big bucks, they'll know what to do with their money.

Welcome and thanks for hanging out after the end of the world...

TSP4Soccer welcome to the message board. Markets going crazy today at least some of us are sane.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and best of luck with your TSP.:D

Welcome. Most of us started out feeling dumb but after reading and learning about the market and our TSP here, we have almost all benefited and improved the third leg of our retirement package while having fun doing it.

Again welcome and have a wonderful, safe, and warm Holiday season. A little rum in the eggnog will help with that cliff ride - won't even notice it...:D

Malyla

I missed the eggnog but we had a division happy hour at a McCormick's and Schmick's last night. The Long Island iced tea and margarita helped some.

Welcome to TSP Talk! Lots of good information here. Best of luck to you with your investments.

John

Welcome TSP4Soccer! Thanks for joining us, and thanks to your friend for telling you about us.

I am about a year removed from being on the baseball circuit with my son and I know how you feel, except you have it times 2. :)

Best of luck and if you have any questions...

Welcome TSP4Soccer. Believe me, on days like today there are many on here who second guess themselves (I knew I should've bailed yesterday :suspicious:). Easy come, easy go...but we just try to enjoy ourselves on here and learn as much as we can. Best of luck in 2013!

Tell me about it... last week I thought, ok, Congress will recess beginning the weekend before Christmas. They will probably not have a deal and the market will tank on Friday. I will move my money to the "G" on Thursday. Yesterday at 12:02, I said, "Whoops, missed the deadline; I hope I didn't screw up." So... my new line of thought is... the market will make up for the loss between now and 1/2/13 so, it is better to leave my money in the "S" and make more. The other side of my brain is screaming... AHHHHH! We're in freefall and you didn't pack a frickin' 'chute!!!

Thanks, tsptalk and everyone! Looking forward to watching, learning, and investing. I 1/2 bailed yesterday and moved 50% to G with 25% in S and 25% in I. Still wondering if that was a good move. Ignorance is bliss!! lol

PS: My dad and brother were/are Marines and my other brother was 20 years Navy. I have a third brother who was supposed to go Army but went to diesel mechanic school instead. So I'm proud of all services and glad to be a part of a bigger cause!

Welcome TSP4! I also am involved in soccer....AYSO. My 3 girls all went thru it, and even tho they have grown up and out of soccer, I still provide volunteer ref duties for the program.

Sounds like you have jumped right in and are doing fine! Make sure you also spread the word about this site! Check out NSurf9's efforts to get our rules loosened up. Also, you didn't say, but make sure you start your Account Talk thread (or ask Tom to change this thread to your Account Talk thread...since it has already progressed to 2 pages!). Lastly, don't forget to sign up for the Autotracker before the end of Dec so you will be eligible for any possible prizes in 2013!

Again, welcome! Your enthusiasm is infectious!! :D

who got a prob with the airforce? I was in also haha :)

welcome to the forum! hopefully when your kids are pro soccer players they'll be throwing money your way :)

I think (sometime) there are more active/retired/other Air Force members on this board than all the other services combined. We seem to really like the Air Force.
