In US Army, the beret is out and the cap is back

How funny is this: last night I had an overwhelming urge to watch Audie Murphy's `To Hell and Back' & I wasn't even aware it is the Army's Birthday ! The phrase by one of his squad: `I thought the Marines were the ones who did this' and Audie's response, `we are the Marines here' was so very appropriate at Anzoi (sp) and other shore battles. The Marines did the `clearings' in the Pacific, the Army in Europe, and the Navy plus Army Air Corps/Air Force in both - !! We have a great bunch of men & women.
Happy Birthday to all you Army folks,whether active, retired, Reserves, or Cadets!

Once upon a time, I tried to get into a Ranger Battalion and unfortunately failed. I hated it when the Army changed to the black beret, because it wasn't earned. I didn't earn the right to wear the symbol of that elite unit, so I didn't feel comfortable wearing it for my last year in service. I'm glad they've seen the error of their ways.
