Handballer's Account Talk

I hope you don't stay on the lily pad too long. This bull is an opportunity to really make some money but you have to stay in to win. When Coolhand throws in the towel and gets back in that would be a time to pull back for the short term.

I made a big jump from 3% in the market to 10% now effective Friday, June 5th. I am retired without a parachute. I'm really good at jumping in on down days. I'll keep an eye on Coolhand for a hint when to pull back. Thanks.

Hi Handballer

ref your post under "Ask Tom" about your DVD/CD drive

Maybe someone can explain how I can get my E-drive back (build-in CD/DVD drive back. Its actually still in place but my computer does not recognize it. I believe it disappeared downloading a 1/3 GB update to windows last week.

try going to this link:

Ya gotta love MS, always telling you what bad things will happen if you don't install their updates. Never talk about the bad things that happen when you do!

I have had similar problems installing Vista SP1 and XP SP3.

Another possible solution is to see if your computer established a restore point before the update was installed. If you do that you will lose some files you saved since then.

Good luck, if you can back up your data somewhere other than the C drive, and please remember not to hold me responsible if something reeealy baaad happens.

Thanks PessOptimist. I went to the link and run the autofix. It didn't work but I sent email and hopefully I will get an answer next week. I have been saving my work to a thumb drive. If no answer I'll check the restore point. I appreciate your help.

Have you tried INSTALLING NEW HARDWARE in the Control Panel? Plug and Play may work if you unplug the drive, start Windows, shutdown, plug in the drive and reboot?

Thanks again PessOptimist for the tip. This morning after powering up my computer, I checked my drives and my missing drive has reappeared. I copied files to it and it works fine. If I get an email from Microsoft I'll keep it for reference.

You are welcome but I did nothing. As Tom said in his original reply:

Wish I could help, but I usually just play hit and miss with that stuff until it works, then I forget what worked. reboot, hit that, unplug this, plug in, reboot, look for hardware, etc.

Nnuut's suggestion may or may not have worked as well. No one (including the MS "tech support peeps") will ever know what really happened. Glad your E drive came back. Maybe it was in the drawer with that old Zip drive you've been saving:suspicious:

I really hesitated to suggest the restore point as I had an older machine being forced to run XP that restored to the point of the XP install and required me to reinstall all the apps again:worried:

I could go on and on (all ready have) but maybe I should mosey on over to the lounge and start a thread about PC problems we have all had at home and work. (OPSEC considered of course)

My Personal Investment Performance (PIP) for the 12 months ending 06/30/2009 is negative 2.24%. Nothing to brag about.

Clearly, theres nothing on my mind. Just trying to catch the leaders in posts count. :p

Yer moving up quickly on the POST-O-METER keep up the good work and you'll catch me in no time!!

I guess I need to work harder on the posts.

I tried to do a IFT tonite (after two normal IFTs). I have 97.99% in G and 2.01 in F. Tried to change to 99% G and 1% L. I thought I could increase the G to 99% and lessen the F to 1%. Response from TSP: The following errors have been encountered:

Because you have already executed two interfund transfers this month, you are eligible to transfer your money from the F, C, S, I and L Funds only to the G Fund. You cannot transfer among the other funds until after noon eastern time on the last business day of this month. Click here for more information. If you would like to make an IFT request into the G Fund, please re-enter your request.

You could go 98%G and 2%F....or 97%G and 3% F Fund, but it is probably not worth doing. FRTIB will only let you move <1% to any stock fund or F fund after the two initial IFT's

Gumby is correct that you could have used the <1% option and gone 98% G and 2% F. However the G rule (to the best of my knowledge) is not a move all from CSI & L to G. As long as the percentages are whole numbers you should be able to move a little at a time from any fund to G. You should have been able to select 99% G and 1% F. Above you mentioned 1% L fund. Did you have accidentally select 1% in L instead of F? That would have given you the WARNING for sure.
