Golf Pool... The PGA Championship 2013

Thanks... I have been so busy that I did not even get a chance to watch it. Just checked it this morning to see how I did.

congratulations to tsptalk for an impressive win. also to wvango the only other tsp'er to come in under par, and to rcknwerlfd for a decent 3rd place finish.
Woo hoo! Another mug for me! :D

Congrats wvango! PM or email your shipping info for your Travel Mug!

Thanks for playing, everyone!

Just playing devil's advocate to the runaway winner score issue...

When you go by position, it could have the opposite effect. If you have someone who's tied for 6th with 7 people, and he drops a stroke, he drops to 13th place, instead of being one shot behind them.

Also, if you have a situation where, say you have the leader and he's up by 10 strokes (as opposed to being by 1 over the person in 2nd) you can get away with someone like Phil Mickelson who blows up and shoots a +14.

I'm more of a fan of the original scoring method. (And no, I'm not sour because I'm not going to win again this week) Easier to keep track of the scores and takes the outliers out of the equation (player who mails it in and posts some large numbers, and the run-away win by ten strokes victories).

if dufner, scott, and westwood all have a bad day and none of my boys mess up then i'm a shoe in for the obgibby cup. plus i've got my tiger woods voodoo doll and some used shishkabob skewers from last night's bbq ready in case he gets uppity.

Scrappy had Donald, not Dufner. Doh!

Great job, by the way, burro! I appreciate it.

ok then, we're 3 rounds in, i've been paying close attention for 2 of them, and i've got the spreadsheet wrong about 8 times, so i must be batting oh, uh, well, anyways i tried. sorry 'bout your luck scrappy.

i think we've got a good format for this type of scoring model, it's just that i suck at data entry. but my boss could've told you that a long time ago. at least they keep paying me, even if it is just out of sympathy.

i'll upload the actual spreadsheet too so somebody else could take it over if they want. and if i win it should definately be double checked. again.

dang it, spotted another mistake. donald l is listed as a golfer but has no score. but somebody had to pick him or else i wouldn't have typed his name in that column. so who picked him and how does whatever his score is affect our tsptalk rankings?

so the analytical side of me can finally digest the score distribution information and there is some interesting stuff in that chart.

no tsptalkers got penalized for having to include a cut golfer in their top 4 score. i don't know what that says about tsptalkers. maybe we're so freakin smart it just don't occur to us to bet on losing horses. or maybe we're so conservative that we as a group only will sign off when there is little risk. solve and apply that dynamic and i bet our budget deficit goes away.

10 of 13 tsptalkers picked both tiger woods or phil mickelson. even though phil was so high for a week after his last win he had to scurry up the steps at the clubhouse in flip flops just to barely register or miss this tourney at the last minute. and tiger has never been the same after his wife finally had enough of him screwing porn stars all the time. now i don't know about you, but there is no way either oak hill or the public would let me get away with running around late in flip flops with whores all the time, let alone my exwife, so there is something wrong with this picture. and yet 77% of us chose at least one, and 62% chose both of them.

despite the mickelson/woods meltdowns it doesn't seem to matter. our lowest loser ecougar @ +1, and tom1 & tsptalk @ -14 our highest winners have both brats in their stable. what does that say?

i do agree that we should include a point incentive for selecting the underdogs in future contests because i hold neither crook in my hand for moral reasons and if it weren't for the golden boys and their free pass my band of misfits would be kicking butt. same as it ever was.

stupid human deficiencies, i can't wait until machines rule the world then this kind of stuff wouldn't happen. i'm going to come back as an elin nordgren robot and beat the crap out of tiger again. he deserves it for that whole repeatedly dallying in the porn star flesh error. but she messed him up good at least, no matter how they upgrade the program his circuitry appears permanently damaged and unable to produce at unpredictable times. plus it makes for great tv, gotta have a villan.

once again i blew it, great at the inspiration process but poor on the execution stage, it's been a problem my whole life. some things you just can't change. god grant me the serentity, and i'll take another helping of forgiveness too if that's still free.
