GGal's Account Talk

sorry for not given you more info, it was an award from an arbritrator for over a ten year period for a contract violation, i work for the post office. yes it will be a lummmmp sum and i doubt they will give it in installments

Most lump sums with USPS are taxable. Unfortunately, they usually pay it with your regular pay check causing the tax to be higher.

Hmmm. That wouldn't cause the "tax" to be higher. The tax liability will be determined as of 12/31 of the year received and will depend on the tax bracket.

I think you mean it might cause the "tax withheld" to be higher, right? Which can always be adjusted if it legitimately needs to be.

you stated it can always be adjusted if it legitimately needs to be. coould you expand on this thanks pogo

Pogo, I merely meant that if your employer is withholding too much income tax for whatever reason (afterall, they don't know what you don't tell them on your W-4), you can always adjust the amount being withheld from your payroll check each pay period.

I think Merlin may have been indicating that your employer may withhold on your award payment at 30% or whatever. And we were merely discussing that if, for whatever reason (we don't know your facts of course) your estimated final tax liability was going to be at a much lower rate, you could always adjust your withholding to make it come out at the total for the year that you need.

We're merely batting comments around, because we don't know your potential tax liability, and you should really pay us little attention. You should make sure you have enough withheld so that you don't owe an estimated tax penalty.

I adjust my withholding several times during the year, don't you? At the beginning of the year, I adjust it as close as I can guess at the time (certainly trying not to go over)....then in September, I do a rough guestimate and usually end up increasing it some. Then again about pay period 20 (since our w-2 cuts off at pp 24 every year)I try to do a better true up based on everything I know at that point about my deductions and my investment income. My goal is to certainly not have a refund coming, but not to owe over a few hundred dollars.

WARNING!

I'll be out of pocket next week. Every time that's been the case this year, the bottom has fallen out of the leaky bucket.

I hate doing away with the account thread......now it's not easy to see what folks are doing at a glance, especially last minute......inquiring minds want to know.

I agree - if someone didn't bring this up - I WAS GOING TO!

HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT FUNDS OTHER FOLKS, ESPECIALLY THE LONG-EXPERIENCED FOLKS, ARE GOING TO ON A DAILY BASIS?

I'm not a follower of any one persons moves, WE NEED TO HAVE THIS CAPABILITY AGAIN - to have as a general consensus. This was an essential part of my decisionmaking!! :worried:

I hope I'm not the one responsibe for this change - but I know it's a very competitive world and those in the lead probably want to stay there and don't want anyone following catching up. Anyway, I felt ATCJeff was the one to follow and that was my new game plan for 08. Wouldn't ya know - as soon as I make that known - the option to follow his moves disappears.

It looks like 2008 will be full of changes to get use to. Hopefully, any and all changes will result in double digit profits for us all. Most things in life of value, don't come easy. Oh yes, Happy New Year to you all.

I'm not sure what all the hubbub (sp :)) is about. You can just go into the autotracker, and click on Member's IFT Records. The link is on the TSP tracker page too (www.tsptalk.com/tsp-tracker.html). You'll see every account there and all of the members' allocation changes. It's actually faster and easier to view everyone's moves, unless they are following a premium service in which case we hide the last few transfers.

No consiracies. We are just trying to automate a very labor intensive process.

Thanks Tom,
I misread this thread - and thought it was the Auto Tracker that was being eliminated. That's the one I use anyway - since many don't post their moves on the other thread. Again thanks for the clarification.

I agree that autotracker is better in viewing peoples current IFTs, but the better display is the "View IFT of the day"
aka http://www.tsptalk.com/tracker/tsp_user_record_all.php

Kudos to ET_ret for this wonderful new tracker. :)

hub-bub (??)

Yes, it can be done, just not nearly as easily, not at a glance.

Good call Greg. I forgot about View IFT of the day. Judging by the response to GG's post, I'd say I wasn't the only other one to overlook it. It doesn't get any easier. GGgal, you can add that to your favorites and see all IFT's at a glance. I hope that helps.

And by the way, it was ocean who developed and did all of the technical work for the autotracker. EW has been doing most of the managing of the members and IFT's as he did with the old tracker. A couple of other moderators have been updating the prce data each day as needed. It's been a group effort. Many thanks to all!

There it is GGal, - what we were looking for:
http://www.tsptalk.com/tracker/tsp_user_record_all.php

Thanks Tom,
I think this is what we were looking for - just really difficult to find!
Recommend, GGal, & others interested, to bookmark this web-address as a favorite!

I finally did find it about 15 min. ago (the "IFT Of The Day", above), but it took~2 hours of searching!
Anyway, its there!
Thanks again Tom (and EW_Ret).

PS Mine was made today before noon, effective for COB today - not for 1/3/08 as shown - I wish I could change/correct it. I had a computer glitch today, so this required me to use the "Thriftline." Then a work "crisis" -what a mess of a day!

  2. Confusion; tumult.

Thanks GGal! I wouldn't have made the tracker link changes without this exchange! Thanks for the idea!
The links are now on www.tsptalk.com/tsp-tracker.html (the link to that page is on the home page).

Yeah Tom,

I was looking for the same thing that GGal was looking for and if I'd asked about it I would have raised a hub bub.

Thanks for the link guys.
