Amen Brother!!

I'd also like everyone to remember the Veteran's who literally gave their lives to serve their country - yet are still here today. Many on this MB and many of our relatives and friends.

Lastly all those currently in Iraq/Afganistan.

My point is you don't have to die - to fully give your life in service

A big double salute to all the generations of service men and women..God bless them and the USA

Interesting article by Mebane Faber. It presents a strategy option which requires limited moves and speaks directly to EAFE. Not that I'll follow but everything bears watching....

http://seekingalpha.com/article/78755-asset-class-rebounding-after-bad-months

Back in January I examined some of the worst months on record for 5 main asset classes in a piece titled, "Time to put money to work". The summary:
What are the key take-aways?

- It does not pay to buy an asset class after a really bad month for the following 1 month.

- 12 months later the return is not much different than average.

- 3 and 6 month returns, however, are stronger. You pick up on average about 3-4% abnormal returns buying after a terrible month. That annualizes to about 10% per annum.

A simple strategy would be:

After an asset class has a terrible month (i.e. MSCI EAFE in January), wait a month then take a 2 month position, i.e. buy March 1 with a two month hold.
How did that perform, buying March 1 with a two month hold? Using the iShares Trust MSCI EAFE Index Fund (EFA), I show a return of 5.9%, not too shabby! The other two poorly performing asset classes were foreign developed - iMCSI Emerging Markets Index Fund (EEM), which would have done about 5%, and foreign REITs - SPDR DJ Wilshire International Real Estate (RWX), which would have done about 4.9%.

Going in 20/20/60 CSI

Back in at levels lower than when I left and trying to stay with being in stocks at the beginning of the month if possible. Best of luck to everyone.

Not so sure I'm going to hang after tomorrow... Hoping that tomorrow doesn't turn into a disaster... Better to be lucky than good...

Turn the page...new subject.. Does anyone have a High School student graduating? My third graduates tomorrow so one more to go. It's been a rough road but we made it. College next.. My sweetheart deserves a medal!! Anyways, if you do, congratulations!! We're hosting Grad Night out at the base so hopefully we don't lose any grads before they get to start the next phase of their precious lives..

Take care and be safe... for those in the market tomorrow, best of luck!!

I gave my daughter $1000 as a gift for the accomplishment of high school graduation - it was all gone within three months. Now she has more money in her check book than I do in mine.

I think that's universal... Mine must go out to eat and make trips to Starbucks everyday. They all go through it and then reality hits. The first two had their time and then found out it wasn't reality. Let them enjoy it while they can I say. Birch, it's always neat to hear the pride you have in your daughter. New contest... nesxt TSPer to have a baby names it Snort or Bull..

Take care,

John

Hopefully everyone on the MB will agree that this thread should be declared:

The Warm and Tranquil Site
No amount of money - or TSP investment strategies can compare to the trials and joys of our families; our health; and the accomplishments of our children.

This is where to come if you're looking for something real and something worthwhile to help us all remember what is most important.

Thanks John!! You're a good guy.
