I'm thinking the penny will pay COB tomorrow. Been seeing a pattern of 5 days, 4 days, 5 days, 4 days, so next in the pattern is 5 days.

I'm leaning that way as well, particularly with the recent rate change...but this is still based only upon guess and gestalt.;)
 
If I do an IFT to G before noon, will I pick up the penny tomorrow (assuming it is paid tomorrow?

I'm predicting the penny will pay tomorrow, Dec. 13. So if you want it, today would be a good day to buy the G fund before the deadline, based on my prediction, whatever that is worth.
 
I hope you are right about penny on 12/13. I now have the penny being paid on Thursdays for the rest of the month. This week I have the numbers as very close. I have to admit that I now think that the TSP board is messing with the penny date. I have gone back and double checked my numbers and there is a random fluctuation. If the fluctuation was in the same direction you could say that they are taking out fees, but the fluctuation has not seemed to be in the same direction. (Don't get me wrong, if I was on the TSP board I'd do the same thing.) I think this will be the last month I publicly post when I think the penny will hit.

Why the heartache with posting the penny? I know you have some concern with the fact that you can't always nail it to the day. We all recognize that it breaks the pattern from time to time, but knowing when it's dicey is still useful. I hope you decide to keep at it, even if you have to give a two day range from time to time.

Mr. obvious says that it will post again either at COB 19th or 20th.

Mr. prediction (grain of salt) says that it will post COB on the 20th.

I agree, the Board very well may determine when to pay the penny, based on how that penny may be used. Politically to service public debt or, contractually left up to Barclays as a kind of incentive fee, keeping managment fees low, to be collected when the least of our funds is in the G. Barclays essentially has the leeway to pay it every 4, 5, or 6 days. Incentive fees are standard practice in institutional money management to the tune of 20-25% of the profit each month. I too would do the same :)
 
If you are going to play it, my prediction (for what it is worth): the penny pays cob on the 26th. So if you are planning on getting it, buy before noon on the 22.
