G Fund

FS, why do you say it was predicted for yesterday or today? I thought we both had it coming today and next Friday? Our only discrepency was I have it coming on the 30th and you have it coming on the 1st?

Dumbedore had it pegged for last night.

G fund paid penny today!? Did anyone see this coming? Any new projections for the coming weeks?

Dumbledorrrrrrrrrre!!????....where Are Youuuuuuuu????

Hey, stop that!! :p

Well I guess just like the I fund and the F fund, you just never really know...... when they start messing with the S and the C funds, that's when I get really angry!!

I would assume that with Thanksgiving being next Thursday, we'll get the next penny on Friday the 24th.............

I don't think people should really be chasing the penny anyway in a bull market. Not enough risk\reward to warrant it in my opinion.

Anywho, I'm in the G today!!!!! :D

A reference to a previous discussion of return. We discussed it awhile back when we talked about the penny strategy.

The G-fund penny should come on Monday. The gain will be equivalent to an annual rate of return of 21.5% (0.086% gain for the day * 250 trading days a year).

Given that the markets are stretched...

Given that today started out red...

Given that Iran is boasting that they have doubled uranium production rates...

The penny is looking mighty good right now... a definite soft spot.

Ah, never understood that post. 22% would be making a penny a day(at the G funds current price). How does this help if the G fund only pays a penny every 5-6 days?

Not getting it.

The idea was that "if" you could dart to the g-fund for just the penny days and then dart back to other funds on non-penny days, you would be effectively earning 22% annual rate of return on penny days. If you were to go to the C-fund the rest of the time, your rate of return would beat the S&P 500 significantly. See discussion

My calc show the next penny payout on Nov 23rd but my confidence is definitely shaken. Since Nov 23rd is a holiday, guess that might mean it will be Nov 24th?

I thought the G fund payout was by definition, the interest rate determined by the Fed Reserve Board, i.e. Bernanke's group or something very close to that -- tied to their direction. That would mean the annual interest was 5.25% or close to it.

I'm thinking they may be putting an FV (like the I fund) on this calculation (now and then - I show something strange on Oct 6th) just to keep us guessing. Or maybe holidays change things?

I have the next penny paying next friday, Nov. 24. If it paid Nov. 23, we'd get it on 24th anyway because of the holliday. My calcs show 23rd...

I've got a Nov 30/Dec 1 is a toss up.

I am trying out a new column in my spreadsheet. I put the chance of the penny payout on Wed 22 Nov at 25%. If it comes the 22nd, then the 29th. If it comes on the 24th, I put the chance of the 29th at 50%.

I ain't got no fancy-schmancy spreadsheet formulary calculationator or anything, but my Kentucky windage method says 30 NOV for the penny, based on the 16 NOV penny and the presumption that it would have paid out on the 23d if it wasn't a holiday. It seems that the 16 NOV shift in pay date caught many by surprise and probably won't occur again for a couple of weeks. Has there been any more accurate re-figuring since then to predict the next G-penny?

My "fancy schmancy" spreadsheet is showing Dec 1st but my confidence is definitely not as high as it used to be.

Me thinks they (tsp admins) jack with the distribution with some unpredictable (by us) calc. I didn't use to think so. Anyway, put me down for the 1st, that's the best I can do.

(Maybe Tom will give us a travel mug if we are the first to predict correctly? LOL)

Well, I missed the G fund payout by a day. Looks like qibovin did better without his "fancy smancy spreadsheet". Think I'll defer to him in the future. Oh well...

I have the next penny as next Wed., Dec. 6. Shouldn't matter if they change the interest rate a little. Anybody know if the interest rate changed?
