Our Agency allows you to hold a second job - (in fact encourages you to..) start a small business (as long as it is not a small business regulated by your office), and write a book (as long as it is not a book directly about the subject of your agency's regulatory actions). You can write fiction all day long (oops- I mean in the evenings, after work, or on your furlough days from home) if you like.

I have a trilogy in my head waiting to be put to paper, and it's all fiction, but it would be considered in violation of DHS rules and would never be approved. I would have to submit my draft to the chain of command for approval prior to trying to find a publisher to publish and distribute the books.
I have approval to sell Amway, but I haven't made much doing that. I mostly just buy the products for my own use. I'm not in to the network marketing thing.
