Frixxxx,
Congrats on the college kids thing. Don't they always amaze us!
I noticed that as of the 4 Dec 10 LES I am at $15,875. The $635 contribution on 18 Dec 10 will put me over the $16,500 limit. Damn. Might have lost some matching contributions. Maybe not. LES run from the first pay period which is not 1 Jan. Someone at DFAS is paid to figure all this out. (I don't work for DOD, DFAS is my pay provider agency)
Like alevin I too have neglected the catch up for many years. It's not automatic so I forget. I believe the old fart per pay period amount is $511. Plus or minus.
[Soap Box]For those of you viewing that think you can't afford to contribute $625 per pay period, try to find a way. You will thank yourself when you are an old fart. [/Soap Box]
regards
PO
Hey Frixxxx, congratulations to the kids and to you parents too. Partyyy time! Celebrations are in order to all.
PO (and Frixxxx and anybody else reading)-I too was worried about being over the 16,500 limit with my last contribution this year (by a few $ miscalculation). I did some heavy catchups starting in August to make it up to the limit on regular contributions this year-my first time ever hitting the regular limit. I did some checking and think we'll be ok, they'll just round off the last pp contributions to make sure we don't go over the 16,500, from what I read last week.
As for the lollygagging on catchups-not true, not true!!! The past 3 years, I first paid off my mortgage and then restocked my emergency cash stash and then saved up cash for the new roof and insulation and other energy-efficiency goodies that got done this summer, all that and managed to finally save the 16500 for the first time ever this year.
so now I'm finally able to fully fund the tsp including catchups starting next CY. YAYAAYYY!! finally!
