...just like everybody else???!??..where does that leave you? in a mormon commune, is your last name Smith?
You'd be sucking different air if you were one of those 4000 FAA employees and or one of the 10's of thousands off work because of collateral damage because of this ignorance in Washington...you maybe only be a G band, but at least you're working and can count on a paycheck this week...Hit the streets slick, and see what the real world has to offer you..NOTHING, because that's why your still sucking the hind tit of your Uncle Sam....Need your hypocrite security blanket fluffed?
Forget it Buster, he has been brainwashed like the rest of the TEA partyers who think government workers, the poor, and old need to pay the price to get us out of this mess. He probably means what he says and would gladly be a martyr because he thinks he is being patriotic when it's the folks who got us here should pay. Congress, Wall Street, Big banks, and yes the wealthy who made out like bandits during the recession. Instead, they get a free pass.
"Among the PASS members impacted by the furlough are a single mother who has worked for the FAA for over 24 years who is already struggling to make ends meet; an engineering technician responsible for installation projects from Maine to Puerto Rico who is considering filing for unemployment if the furlough continues; and an aviation safety assistant who works with inspectors on special instrument procedures who calls the furlough ‘completely unexpected' and had to file for unemployment.
"These are real people suffering real hardships and the fact that their jobs have been taken away in this troubled economy due to controversial provisions in the House-passed FAA extension is beyond disturbing. Above all, these FAA employees want to return to work. They want to continue in their efforts to protect and promote the safe and efficient operation of this country's aviation system.
Thanks for putting a real face on the situation.Meanwhile, partisanship continues to smack down Sally Secretary over at FAA, who has been without employment for a week now. She really is wondering what will happen if this bickering continues much longer. She has mouths to feed, you know. Stuck in the middle- the good working people who make up the United States government. http://www.newsmgr.com/nm2/publish/...SECURE-PAY-FOR-FURLOUGHED-FAA-EMPLOYEES.shtml

About that furlough thing, the last time the issue came up recently I had 3 job offers lined up before they called it off and I had to come in to work that next Monday morning. I wish I’d gotten the chance to get out of the office for a couple of weeks while they actually worked on the budget problems instead of playing kick the can, maybe we wouldn’t be here now.
I currently am employed as a part time hired hand in addition to my day job, mainly as a way to put food in the freezer and involve my family in the country lifestyle since I’m not one of the landed gentry. And I’m putting in some good wheel time to get my CDL. Next step will be to upgrade to hazmat endorsement as an oil field services backup play, they rockin the bakken you know. Small matter to re-up welding certs if necessary.
I choose to work for the government because I believe and take pride in the mission I support and I like the people I work for (U.S. taxpayers). I am thankful for my ‘only’ G band. Although I’ll admit it’s much easier and better for the family thing too, and I’m getting old. But I guarandamtee you if I were to get furloughed today I will be working tomorrow. Suck that air.
When Feds Get F%*^#*%ed

Depending on how the debt ceiling issue is settled - or not - furloughs could be just around the corner for hundreds of thousands of federal workers. If so, how would they work and are you ready? Would it be a dreamy surprise mid-summer dream or a pre-back-to-school nightmare?
(snip)
...
Last week approximately 4,000 FAA employees were told that because of an unrelated funding dispute in Congress, their services were no longer needed for the time being.
As one reader/listener put it, "...aren't all 4,000 feds, plus any contractors caught up in the mess entitled to unemployment benefits? And if the federal government furloughs more workers and contractors if an agreement is not met on the debt limit issue, wouldn't they be entitled to unemployment benefits as well, thus shoving a HUGE financial burden onto the states? I'm surprised I haven't seen anything in the media about this...I would think he states would be quite concerned..." - L. P.
So when will they be ordered back to work? Does the furlough have any impact on their health insurance coverage, their 401(k) plan. Can they apply for unemployment benefits? Will they get back pay when they finally return to work? Are you next?

a good read.

The Democratic governor announced Thursday that the state ended the fiscal year with a $340 million surplus, making Montana one of eight states not facing a shortfall ... I don't see a lot of legislative will to borrow any money or do anything to fund the entitlement programs
Eight major financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs (GS, Fortune 500) and Wells Fargo (WFC, Fortune 500), put up the funds, which will help the state with its daily cash flow needs. Also, the money will cover California in case the federal government delays payments for services such as health care and transportation ... Lockyer plans to issue the debt eventually and use the proceeds to pay off the bridge loan.
"They will make on time and in full the payments to debt holders, and we believe that they will make on time and in full the payments to Social Security recipients. Beyond that, it's very difficult to say that anybody will be paid on time and in full," Bell said. "If I were a federal worker, I would be concerned that I would not get paid."
Bell also has a reminder to federal workers that unlike a continuing resolution, in which employees can be designated as essential, that distinction does not exist in this instance.
"We're in uncharted territory, and I would think most of the assumptions people are making about 'Am I essential, am I non-essential?' are pretty irrelevant when they start having to make this priority decision list," Bell said.
"If it goes on two or three weeks, in my view, there will be substantially more than 50 percent of the civilian workforce in the federal government laid off because that's the only remaining money," Bell said.
There has been a bi-partisan effort to cut that program for two decades. Cut them. I don't want to pay a thousand dollars per ticket to fly someone anywhere. The House bill also curtails a federal subsidy program that provides commercial air service to small-town airports. The program was created in 1978 after airline deregulation, with an expected 10-year life span. Three presidents — Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush — later targeted it for elimination, but it has been extended by Congress and now costs about $163 million a year.
Affected positions include civil, electronic and aerospace engineers; attorneys; staff assistants; secretaries and aviation safety inspectors.
Nearly 50 medical, engineering and facilities workers
BTW, I love the use of engineering. What type? Medical? And, do these critical folk tasked to support the unfunded earmark in question?engineering and electronics technicians, computer and logistics specialists and support staff
By the way, the city of San Diego has stated that their airport modernization project will be uneffected. How is that?
When the dust settles, federal employees will be paid retroactively for their time off and contractors will receive equitable upward adjustments, without even having to go into dispute. But meanwhile, a lot of breathless 'sky is falling' is all that some people know how to contribute, in addition to taking OPM. Just like it serves other evil people's inner self to alarm 85 year old grandmas about their social security check. Evil, not tactics, just evil.
