Finally!

Yes, Finally! :D
I've had my home up for sale for over a year and we finally received an offer, with a little negotiation, that we have accepted. Closing in about 6 weeks and my retirement date will be around April 12th. It's been a long wait, and struggle for my wife, as we have been waiting anxiously for this day to come. 25 1/2 years of ATC.... I'm done! No more working weekends. No more working nights. No more working holidays. I will miss some of the people I work with, some others not so much, but, it's time for a new chapter.

Congratulations, you'll LOVE it I do

Wow, 25 years as an ATC what an accomplishment, I didn't think anyone lasted that long, I used to work with the washouts waiting for a new career field. They weren't dumb, just not able to maintain those standards, tough job, glad you made it!

Congratulations. 91/2 months retired and loving it. The first few weeks takes a little getting used to. But after that WEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Now we're in "hurry up and wait" mode. Just waiting on contracts to be signed. Ran some numbers on how much sick and annual leave I have. Looks like I can take off the the last week of March and most of April... last day looking more like April 26th. Better to burn my sick leave and get 100% pay than retire and get 40 cents on the dollar.

Now having moving co's coming by to get estimates on shipping our worldly possessions south.

Busy times this past weekend. Looked at places to rent while we have the new home built. Buyers signed the contract Saturday.. closing early April. And then... wife got calls from her co-workers... her company is closing her office permanently in July. Surprise!!!!
Long discussions on whether to resign and leave immediately or stay until the end of July and collect severence pay. Decided to leave... it would have been a tough 5 months and money doesn't buy you happiness. We have enough money to do what we want and a few grand more won't make a big difference.
We're moving on and not looking back.

April 25th and still no closing date..... I'm set, buyer is set but, the people buying their house still don't have the mortgage approval... it's waiting for final review.... been a torturous last 2 weeks waiting. I did put in my retirement papers, April 30th is my last day at the FAA. House is 90% packed and ready to move. Still trying to find a house to rent in Texas as a large tech firm just opened a facility nearby and all the homes we looked at in March have been snatched up all ready. Good thing we have friends on the ground there who can go out and look inside the places we like and give us a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock
