Finally!

5637 days for civil service
6125 days for social security
My calculation was to eligibility. Add another 2555 days for my mandatory retirement date. I'm not counting on Social Security being there when I retire, so I'm not going to bother calculating those days.

Thanks... we have a closing date of Mon April 29th... nice that they gave us 4 days notice.... NOT!!! I've been on the phone all day between my lawyer, my credit union, my local real estate agent, the agent in Texas, moving company... 6 hours of non stop "putting out fires" that other people left smoldering until the last minute. Finally have a bead on a house to rent... just waiting for the paperwork to get emailed for me to fill out. So... closing on Mon, processing out of the FAA on Tue, moving company on Wed. The end is near!!!!

39 days until I am first eligible
259 days until the day I plan on retiring (or 248) depends?
3048 days until I would have to mandatory
I started, and will retire, young. ;)

935 work days. Not counting four years of use/lose I'll have to take. But I'm with nnuut, too early to start counting. Let the software do it behind the scenes.

You got it. I also have 5.5 years Army time I bought back. I am trying to decide between Dec 31, 2013 (end of calendar year/last day of month) and Jan 11, 2014 (end of leave year and when we get 100% value for S/L). I'll have 31 years and a month or two under the FERS Special Retirement. I will have 2050 hours or so of sick leave end of the year. Staying until Jan 11 will add almost another year and pump an extra 40-50 dollars a month into my retirement after taxes and such are taken out. I might lose out on a a Jan retirement check, but with my Jan 1-11 paycheck I'll get more than half or it back, and within 3 years I'd recoup the rest. So I am leaning toward Jan 11. Besides, with my extra sick days I'd have to burn, so I'd still be gone around X-mas or New Years.

The government is a changing for federal employees and I don't like they way it is going. Time to take my money and run while I can :D

6 more days and I can celebrate my one year retirement anniversary.

Congratulations!! Any words of wisdom now that you have been retired for 1 year?! Should have stayed in longer? Should have left sooner? Best to leave as soon as eligible or stay in to maximize pension? ;)

Kaufmanrider,

Make sure that you are calculating your sick time correctly and how many days you have to burn up. My sick leave hours worked out about 6 for every 8 I used for my retirement. I had to be careful on how many sick days I used so I didn't give too much back but I didn't want to take one hour too much and loose a month or two towards retirement. Even though you are using sick days up because of retirement be careful, if you use to many in a row, your agency may require a doctors excuse. Congratulations and good luck.

Congratulations!! Any words of wisdom now that you have been retired for 1 year?! Should have stayed in longer? No, I was ready to go. Between the Air Force (4 years) and NASA (38 years) I hit my retirement max (42 years). The only way I could add to my annuity check every month was my saved up sick time. Should have left sooner? The only way I would have left sooner would have been a buy out. Best to leave as soon as eligible or stay in to maximize pension? Before you retire you really need to work the numbers so you know if you can afford to retire. When to retire really is personal. I know some guys that retired as soon as they became eligible and came back as contractors. I know some guys that have almost 50 years government service, or more, and don't want to retire. ;)

To answer your first question. Stay busy. Do something to get you out of the house; part time job, volunteering, golf or a hobby of some sort. The wife and I have been on two cruises since retirement and we have two more planned for October. I am enjoying retirement. My wife and I are young enough and healthy enough to enjoy this time of our lives. You just have to make the best of it and enjoy it.
