Federal Disability Retirement

I am considering the possibility of leaving government service on a Disability Retirement. Does anybody know if the TSP rules allow for distribution before the age of 59 1/2 when the employee is retiring due to disability?

I attempted a quick search of the TSP Website, but the only thing I could find was related to ROTH Contributions.


Lot's of smart people out there that have spent a lot more time than myself in the TSP Website, anybody know?

Go to this site and look for Ed Zurndorfer. You will need to create a username and password if you wish to ask a question. Once you do that look for Federal Employee's QA to the far right you will see ED Zurndorfer's Name. You can post a question to him and get an answer. The 10 % penalty for withdraw before age 59 1/2 does not apply if you retire with disability.
