Ebola Globalization

It doesn't work that way. If republicans don't want somebody, they get to vote against them. By filibustering and refusing to allow a vote to be held- the dysfunction is purely on the republicans.

Oh, wait, yet again... So, are you saying that Democrats (remember the capital letter pronoun thing) allow every bill from the House to be voted on in the Senate?

IF THAT WERE THE CASE WE MIGHT ACTUALLY
HAVE A BUDGET

Oh, you mean Democrats (notice the capitals, it is a pronoun, and I choose to show respect even though I don't agree with their politics or methods) don't ever filibuster... seriously? Oh, wait, the Democrats just vote to remove filibuster while they are in power so no one can go against them... uh, wait, one more time, didn't POTUS own both houses of Congress when he entered office. If it was important, it (not specifically talking about the SG things) should have been done then. I guess it wasn't important.

I think it's going to be government policy to protect airline profits and not people (the only reason they let flights in from a country with a flew blown out of control Ebola epidemic) if so, then we should force everyone who wants to fly here to sit in quarantine for 21 days to make sure the disease doesn't spread on US soil. Why wait until they are here? :suspicious:

..But..I firmly believe that anybody coming from or going to West Africa should ought to stay there until they pass a 21 day waiting period before they can leave on ANY Airplane....Period

Hellloooo! Thank you, Buster. That's exactly what I said in post #3.....quarantine anyone from the region for 21 days. Why wait until they are here!!!

I thought Dirty Harry fixed that filibuster thing?
Oh that's only for Federal Judges, you know the ones that make decisions on all of the laws for life!

GOP Gambles Big On Harry Reid's Nuclear Option: Why Not Just Explode The Filibuster For Good?

Frustrated to the breaking point by Senate Republicans who refuse to confirm President Obama’s nominees to the federal bench—simply because they are Obama’s appointments—Senate Democrats now appear ready to push the button on the nuclear option that would end the filibustering of all executive appointments with the exception of nominees to the Supreme Court.

Are you really that unaware of how Washington is supposed to work?

People walking barefoot and stepping in the crap of monkeys and other animals can catch it. Almost every new strain of the flu comes from Asia mainly transmitted from DUCK Crap. Wearing shoes is a good idea.

Please don't feed into Jim's venom for the Republican Party and their affiliates..Do not let this thread turn into another political banter of his as to who's fault this Ebola sh!t is..

Fact is, it's here because of Airlines not wanting to lose airfare from Africa and the quareteen and screening efforts are weak at best..If people in Africa would stop eating Bats and Monkeys, then some of these exotic diseases wouldn't get into humans, like HIV for example...Most all Human virus infections are from animals of some kind..Syphilis came from Sheep...Ever wonder why shepherds never leave sight of their flocks?...:notrust:

I may have been flippant earlier about shooting down a plane coming from West Africa...But..I firmly believe that anybody coming from or going to West Africa should ought to stay there until they pass a 21 day waiting period before they can leave on ANY Airplane....Period!

Government Incompetence and Deadly Recklessness in Ebola Threat Response

By Chris Banescu

Within the span of a couple of weeks, the Obama administration and the director of the CDC have proven themselves to be dangerously incompetent and reckless in dealing with the deadly threat that the Ebola virus poses to the American people. Despite feeding us politically-correct bromides that we have little to fear from Ebola and Obama’s personal reassurances that “the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low,” Ebola has reached America. People are infected, some are under quarantine, many more are being monitored, and one has already died.

Just last week, Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, lectured the American people that closing the border “would not work” in controlling the spread of Ebola to the United States. In classic Orwellian newspeak he warned that restricting travel to and from West Africa would put Americans more at risk of contracting Ebola.
Appearing on MSNBC, Frieden was asked about potentially prohibiting air travel between the U.S. and West Africa, where the Ebola outbreak is most widespread. He said that such a restriction would likely be ineffective and would make it harder for health officials to root out the virus.
“The only way we’re going to get to zero risk is by stopping the outbreak at the source” in West Africa, Frieden said.
“Even if we tried to close the border, it wouldn’t work,” the top health official added. “People have a right to return. People transiting through could come in. And it would backfire, because by isolating these countries, it’ll make it harder to help them, it will spread more there and we’d be more likely to be exposed here.”
Now the CDC director finally admits that the Ebola outbreak is deadly serious. To address these immediate and potentially catastrophic dangers, the government proposes to start temperature checks on passengers coming in from West Africa by the end of this week at only one airport. They will then gradually start rolling this at other major airports. This will be done in addition to the sporadic questioning and screenings those passengers now receive.
The U.S. government also announced it was expanding airport examinations to guard against the spread of the deadly disease.
The checks will include taking the temperatures of hundreds of travelers arriving from West Africa at five major American airports.
The new screenings will begin Saturday at New York’s JFK International Airport and then expand to Washington Dulles and the international airports in Atlanta, Chicago and Newark. An estimated 150 people per day will be checked, using high-tech thermometers that don’t touch the skin.
The White House said the fever checks would reach more than 9 of 10 travelers to the U.S. from the three heaviest-hit countries -- Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
However, these measures are recklessly inadequate. As we’ve seen, people tend to lie to protect themselves and escape government scrutiny. Many will simply lie to avoid quarantine and face denial of entry into the United States. Even worse, those temperature checks the White House and the CDC are touting suffer from a major flaw:
Experts cautioned that a temperature check on arrival would almost certainly not have detected that Mr. Duncan had Ebola before he entered the country. The disease typically incubates for eight to 10 days before symptoms, including fever, develop.
It’s unlikely a fever check would have spotted Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who died of Ebola in a Dallas hospital Wednesday morning. Duncan wasn’t yet showing symptoms when he arrived in the U.S.
Speaking by teleconference with mayors and local officials, Obama said he was confident the U.S. could prevent an outbreak. But he warned them to be vigilant.
How’s that for a non-solution Orwellian "solution" from our leadership!

Where is the Surgeon General on all this, anyway?
So instead of going to the pool of other candidates, the president does nothing for 11 months? How about submitting a new candidate for SG?

What is it with this guy? A two minute video to the citizens of West Africa countries on Ebola? Is this because of the Nobel prize awarded before any performance or because the Muslim reach out is not working?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=gFKMYY-2A2k I thought our Presidents addressed citizens of other nations when they wanted to put a clear picture in their minds of America, stepping past some other governments' distortions. Or is this a continuation of the modified NASA mission to encourage self respect among the citizens of Africa.

Predictions of where the analysis will head are coming true.
Maddow first wondered why other Ebola patients had received blood transfusions from Ebola survivors as part of their treatment, but Duncan did not. This raised some serious questions for Maddow, who wondered "how well we have performed" as a country to control this virus.
"Is it possible that he [Duncan] didn't get as high a standard of treatment as the other patients have gotten in this country?" she asked.
Maddow then turned her attention to the Texas hospital where Duncan was treated, which has been strongly criticized for initially failing to recognize Duncan's symptoms and sending him home.
"Could he have been saved had he been treated right from the beginning of his symptoms?" Maddow continued.
"We've now had exactly one patient diagnosed with Ebola for the first time in this country and he is the one patient treated for Ebola in this country who has died," she said. "How did we do on this test as a country? How badly did we screw this up?"
