DirecTV Experience

took me a minute to figure out how they connected their funnybones to their tailbones, jp. they do manage to make some odd connections at times, don't they? disconnecting their funnybones from their rearends, now that's a tougher one.

Well, I thought I had an appointment yesterday for installation, but apparently the person I talked to didn't actually schedule the appointment... SOOOOO, an afternoon off from work, but still no TV. The earliest they could re-schedule was Wednesday, but I have duty... crap, so Thursday it is

Argggggggggggggggg

We tried DirectTV first but they lied about local channel access. Apparently in DirectTV speak Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago are local to Montgomery, AL. Dish had the local channel contract for our area. So we switched to Dish and have been fairly well satisfied. I understand that the opposite is true for local channels in other parts of the country. i.e. DirectTV has the contract for local channels some areas. JM2CW.

I thought "the employee discount" was your husband! no? ;)

Well, if you put it that way. Then yes, damn it! But I'm not the one getting the discount. Husband is...:suspicious: Which opens up another can of worms.

Yes, I figured you were upset about jokes due to your current situation, which I figured they forgot in the midst of making funnies. If the situation was all good, would have indeed been funny. but you're laughing now, so its all good. ;)

Sometimes the wiser alternative is to laugh. Even though you want to stick a needle in their eyes, pour salt down their throat and kick them on the patootie.:nuts:

It sounds like someone, besides the cable company, is getting screwed on that deal.

We've had DirecTV for about 5 years now. Besides for the occasional delayed response from the HD DVR while utilizing the remote control, we're pleased with it.

BTW, I had our dish pole-mounted in the yard because I did not want any holes drilled into our new home siding or roof.

does that mean you're not mad at me anymore....? :o

How did the cables get to each of the receivers?

Do you mean the cables from the dish?

If so, a hole for a cable box was previously drilled through the brick that surrounds the crawlspace. That hole was utilized for the cables. Actually, I believe the existing cable box was also used.

Ah, ok. I am on a slab, so no good options there. I am hoping to do some attic crawling to minimize the number of holes in my siding...

If your house was previously wired for cable TV they use the existing coax cables, but everyone knows that!;)

good thread for those of us who havent left cable yet.

sorry I messed up the mood the other night. Public apologies to crws and RMI. I was out of line and out to lunch too. jp and I talked and we discovered I had misinterpreted something she said a long time ago-which meant I thought the joking bothered her much more than it actually did. My support was unnecessary and based on my misunderstanding why she was upset. apologies to all. I'll do a little more looking before I leap in, in future.

No need to apologize. Everyone here seems to speak in parables so it's hard to get the gist of the conversation.

For those that are unclear as to what took place and why I was angry....let me give you the short version in plain English...

1. I told RMI I get cable at a discount of under $70 a month
2. RMI said, "are you sleeping with them?"
3. I laughed, because it was funny, I said "No, my husband is in cable, he gets employee discount."
4. crws replies to RMI's quote [are you sleeping with them] with "RMI, you were right."
5. I got angry. Naturally, I am not sleeping with the cable company in order to secure a discount. NOT FUNNY!
6. crws points out that my husband is in Cable, thus proving RMI was right after all...
7. But then I got to thinking, hey, I am not the one getting the discount, my husband is, which makes it look like my husband is sleeping around to get a discount...that was a tables turned sort of joke....and totally not true.

I am sure you all now have a clear understanding of the whole ordeal and how it all went totally south...like Mexico south!

I'm cool. Can we all just get along now?
