crws's Account Talk

Nice windfarm pictures! Looks like developments along the Columbia. I took similar pictures of a large development in WI. Each generator was nestled nicely within the active Agricultural land.

So, wind takes up too much space...
OK, What's the projected footprint of Mt. top removal for coal mining? Don't forget to account for contaminated waterways. Then, let's start talking about the amount of space used for nuclear testing or safe nuclear waste disposal. Oh wait, we can't measure that yet because there is no acceptable space for long term storage.

After computing that let's get back to comparing subsidies to oil companies...which would be "un-American" to repeal...to subsidies for alt energy...which are apparently un-American to implement. Yeah, fossil fuels are soooo much more economical , until you value anything beyond immediate capacity.

Adding to that, the wind is going to blow, whether or not there is anything there to harness it's power.
Solar and Wind power, after the power grid logistics of remote locations are dealt with, would lend substantial energy gains with passive impact.

-But our ancestors have known that forever, right?

True!
Remember when? ;)

If you look at this image, you might think you’re looking at some cool PC mod or something.
You’d be dead wrong.
The item on the left is an old 1GB IBM hard drive.
Pictured on the right side of the image is of course a modern 1GB flash drive card.

The reality is that all generation sources are detrimental to environmental quality and degrade the landscape in numerous ways. Which is why reducing personal/overall consumption is the most elegant solution to our energy problem.

CRWS,

I'm starting to get real serious about using a bit of sunpower to augment my electricity usage. Probably late this year or early next year. If I remember correctly, you seem interested in things like that.

Anyway, SunPower and Sanyo now have photovoltaic panels that appear to reliably generate 300W/h. I only have a small footprint that I think I can use without the condo association screaming (my patio roof). I think I can get five or six panels up there and generate 1.5KW/h for at least 5 hours a day. But I can't seem to find vendors who use the high end panels. They always seem to use the 170W panels. I guess most folks don't need to pay the premium required for a small footprint.

Regardless, if I can make this work I will be out of the stupid 3rd tier rate here in sunny San Diego. Maybe get back into the poverty 1st tier.

Have you looked into anything similar?

Huh- Imagine that!

Is Goldman responsible for Greek crisis?

After watching this video by Russian TV clip I still think Greece is responsible for their crisis, but GS definately helped them perpetrate it for so long. The underlying cause of their financial woes didn't change, GS just helped them hide it.

Right/Wrong?

I wouldn't be surprised to see them at the turn of the coin, "helping" them again in their time of need. LoL

After all, Who ya Gonna Call?

My sister lives in Aspen, Colorado and says that there is still lots of snow on the mountains. Concern now is flooding.

We have just been getting dumped on out here.
Any location over 4000' has been subject to snow at any whim.
One day would be sunny and 70, the next, 45-50 and rain, with snow in the mountains.
A white summer...
The Columbia River finally receded below the flood stage that it had been at for 2+ weeks.
