ChongoChingi's Account Talk

Hi ChongoChingi,
You asked about reading stuff. I like the For Dummies books. They have several in the financial field. I have several, but for TSP and trading, it's the Trading for Dummies by Michael Griffis and Lita Epstein. They run around $25 new.
I'll just list this one for now, cause other members have their favorates too!
Welcome!

Rgds..........:) ............Spaf

Thanks! I know absolutely nothing but I hope to change that quickly. Thanks for the input I will go see if I can find the dummies book. :)

I would start out by reading 24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success by Willian J. O"Neil.

A Must read for all investors.

Ok, here are two requests I made at the end of last week:
____________________________________________________________________________
Date of Request: 08/16/2006
Time of Request: 14:45:39 Eastern
Effective Date: 08/17/2006
G FUND -- 100%

Date of Request: 08/18/2006
Time of Request: 11:04:05 Eastern
Effective Date: 08/18/2006

Investment Percentages You Requested:
L 2040: 0% L 2030: 0% L 2020: 0% L 2010: 0% L INCOME: 0% G FUND: 40% F FUND: 0% C FUND: 0% S FUND: 30% I FUND: 30%
_____________________________________________________________________

So on Friday shouldn't I have been at 100% G and then today be at
40% G 30% S&I?

It shows me as of Friday being 40%G 30%S&I. If you change it before noon eastern on a day it takes affect before the end of that day? Its not for the next day? At no point last week was I at 100% G...

You were 100% G fund for Friday but this InterFund transfer (IFT) was effective Close Of Business (COB) on Thursday on 8-17-2006. You made another IFT for COB Friday, 8-18-2006, to 40% G, 30% S, and 30% I.

I have added you to the TSPTalk Weekly Tracker. Your return performance will be published in this tracker on a weekly basis, each weekend. It will show your return starting from 8-18-2006 at 100% G to the COB Friday of each week. Rokid and FundSurfer will publish monthy, quarterly, YTD, 12-month return reports, but your return performance will not show up until the end of September, at which time you'll have a full month of tracking.

Well tsp.gov showed me at 40/30/30 G/S/I for friday and that is what I am at today. I dont know if it just didnt work correctly or what. So for future reference if I do an IFT before noon on monday then Tuesday it should take effect?

I know it is confusing because the TSP.gov site states your transfer was effective on 8/18, but they mean the COB on 8/18. You are at the new asset allocation starting the following trade day.

If you make a IFT move before 12:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) Monday (8/21), it takes place that same day at COB fund prices. You start gaining/loosing the following day (8/22) with the new fund asset allocations based upon that days closing price.

Late notice but I did 50/50 C/G for COB 08/22

Your IFT today will be entered into the Weekly Tracker for COB 8-23 (Wednesday). You need to post your IFT move by 12:00 pm EDT for it to be entered into the tracker for that day's COB fund prices. We use the same rule as TSP.gov, except I do allow some leeway in posting late to your account. Today your posted to your account at 1:28 pm and this falls outside the leeway I give members.

Ok, this is what I have learned in just the couple of weeks of using this web site and trying to time my IFT's. Dont mess with it! I think my plan will be to put 90% in the L2040 fund and then maybe take the last 10% to play with so that I can satisfy my curiosity. If I put my money in the LFund it wont be tracked will it?

Before I joined this site I was the mixed L funds person last year when it was available. I remembered MM (tracker at the time) would not track it at first but later he was willing to track it for the members. (Thanks MM). But since then I learned to mix all G/F/C/S/I funds without bothering the L funds anymore. In the beginning, I was in the same boat as you now and my returns of investment was not that great comparing with other members but I was able to make some profits.

As time went by, my skill was getting better and I am quite comfortable with my own pick now. One piece of advice is that you need to study some leading members on this site. Learn their moves and the reasoning with their moves. It is ok to follow their moves if you can’t make your own with better result. Until one day you can swim by yourself in the ocean with the right skill, then you can be independent. I am glad to tell you that I just past that stage now. But I still have to learn from other members on this site.

Here is the list of names that you may find useful to follow (they all have very good track records. No particular order with names listed below):

Fundsurfer
Showme
SS
Wheels
Griffin
Fivetears
Wizard of Oz
Pointman
ebbnflow.
TSPtalk (site owner)

Hope it helps.

Well I think it seems pretty safe to just stay put in one of the L funds until I get the hang of it. Over the past 12 months the 2040 has returned over 9%. What kind of returns do the members here get? (I know it varies a lot from person to person)

When ever you split up your money you markedly reduce your potential. Come with me to the C fund - it'll be just us two. Safe and cozy just like the G fund - only you can make some dollars. Your choice.

CC,

Funds are managed by the individual members according to their own strategy. Members get to see and discuss various options, some work, some don't. However, we try and stay away from the TSP losses that equities took in the 2000-2002 time frame.

I don't recall recieving a notice from TSP in 2000, advising participants of the declining market (maybe my dog ate it). On this board, I guarantee you will have a heads-up!

Respectfully, ............:) .............Spaf

The latest tally is located here:

http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/showpost.php?p=54214&postcount=15

The average YTD return for TSPers (board members being tracked) through 25 Aug 2006 is 5.74%. The L2040's YTD return is 6.13%.
