NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Comedian David Brenner passed away Saturday, a spokesman for his family said. He was 78.

Jeff Abraham, who was Brenner’s publicist, said the “Tonight Show” favorite died Saturday afternoon at his home in New York City.

The gangly, toothy Brenner made more than 150 appearances as a guest and substitute host on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show,” starting in the 1970s.

The exposure turned the former documentary filmmaker into a hot comedian.

Brenner was a regular on other TV talk shows and game shows and starred in four HBO comedy specials. He also briefly hosted his own syndicated talk show in 1987.

I was hoping someone else noticed, too. I did not post because I was not sure that a hero qualified for recognition by some in this thread on entertainers.

My Very sPECIAL cELEBRITY:

Last Wednesday my poor Buddy Bearcat had to be put to rest…He was 13 years old this week...He had been battling bowel problems for many years...I would take him in for shots about every three weeks and he was on a special diet food that he hated to eat, but would at least eat when he was hungry enough....he put up a great fight to live... I bring this up now, as I am just able to write about Him without gushing all over my keyboard

In the past month or so, he began to really get sick, no eating or drinking and was wasting away to just skin and bones...he lost the will to live and just gave up...left him at last overnight with the vet and they tried to feed him and put in IV fluids, etc....but he didn't respond..his little body was shutting down... he was so weak he couldn't even hold his head up when I was saying goodbye.

So after many tears and trying to find a reason why ..I decided it was best for Bear to stop suffering.

I’m had him cremated so I’ll always have him to Love and Cherish in my home with his ashes.

This Picture of Bear is a couple of years old ago...
