I can't remember the history..but can anyone say what the (TYPICAL) market day is like for a BLACK FRIDAY (Day after Thanksgiving), as in; a good up day or a bad down day ?

Thanks

STA sez, bearish. Shortened trading day. Trading Thanksgiving market long into weakness prior, exit into strength after.

Thanks for the only reply SM..figured on more..But I found my answer by doing a little digging and you're right ..the general consensus is two days of gain..

Historically buying on the close the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and selling on the close the Friday after thanksgiving would have yielded far superior returns when compared to a typical two day return. The edge in the S&P is 5 times larger than a random, 2 day holding period and the edge in the NASDAQ is 51 times larger than a random 2 day holding period with 83% of all occurrences being winners. See table below for complete performance statistics.

Ummm: Not like today, after Dubai asked for delayed payment on $60B on a US holiday. Thanks alot.

Big flight to treasuries in the last 1/2 hour. Will see if this continues.

Yeah - but I guess we will be getting our Gasoline for less. :cheesy:

"Longer Lines, Fuller Carts This Black Friday" - and maybe this will stop the bleeding.

Don't count on it; some significant trading down of equities at the bell today. Retail traffic looks lighter than normal out here (California), as it was last year; more data (internet sales, durable ex-trans) needed.

Well, whatever then..I'm gonna have to ride it out till it pops back up over where I bought into S yesterday..:suspicious:

I don't know how you managed it, but that first one is actually taken from a Wal-Mart here in OKC..I promise.

Two men were arrested after what authorities said was a violent fight over a Walmart parking space.
WVVA reports that 61-year-old Ronnie Sharp and 35-year-old Christopher Jackson were arrested on Thursday night at a Walmart in Claypool Hill, Va.
Sharp allegedly threatened Jackson with a firearm and then cut Jackson's arm with a knife "down to the bone," according to WVVA.
Sharp is charged with malicious wounding and brandishing a firearm.
Jackson, who was treated at a local hospital for his wounds, is charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery.

Nothing like waiting for the doom and gloom of the poor huddled masses to prove an empty point about Christmas. The shame of our society. Kinda glad I went to work.

i did most of my holiday shopping online over the last couple months as bargains presented themselves again this year. no need to throw sharp elbows in a crowd, i'm saving that for when the crowd really deserves it.

i got everyone in my circle a new $60 go bag when they were on sale for $10 and free shipping at one of the outlets i regularly visit to rotate my stash of copper and lead. they send free stuff like knives or shooting glasses as a freebie with each order which make great stocking stuffers.

i got 3 1000' spools of paracord on sale at $37.50 each and free shipping a while back from mrparacord.com along with a selection of plastic buckles. the metal d-rings and buckles i buy at hobby lobby when i'm in that town because i believe in their health care policy. 300' of assorted patterns for everybody. i downloaded for free a half dozen knot/wrap/tie instuctions and printed and assembled binders, but i'll show them how to weave in person too, it works better that way.

i assemble three 1-day meal kits in gallon ziplok bags using mre entrees and commercially available sides for under $15 per 2,500 calorie pack to rotate out last year's supply. if they haven't ate last year's yet then that's what's for dinner. 2,500 calories is more than enough for 72 hours run and gun. any more and the tendency is to sit around and eat instead of working to secure a new protien supply.

i have made a couple of extravagant retail purchases too: a guitar for the kid i hope he learns how to play bon jovi 'wanted' and quits that dam trumpet 'auld lang syne' crap from school it irritates me; the new assassin's creed for xbox to teach a little history; and bacon bowls as seen on tv for myself. breakfast is a bowl with potatoes and egg, lunch is a bowl with lettuce and tomatoe, and supper is a bowl with cheesy burger, i really like bacon.

other than that it is hand-me-downs. an old leather jacket for the kid, and i'm giving my dad my car because the old one i gave him a few years ago is nearing the end of its useful life and it's about time i take out a new loan anyways.

for stocking stuffers i'm giving stuffed sock monkeys i traded dreamboatannie for a $7 tsptalk mug and an ill placed bet. hung from the chimney with paracord, of course.
