Birchtree's Account Talk

The Transports just went through +207 - time for the Dow afterburners to kick into escape velocity. Plenty of time yet for mom and pop to call in.

Let's see the SPX get up to 1710 like RSI said. I'd like some breathing room, not that I need it. 1750 just around the corner, say 1 week.

I keep seeing references to the Transports. What is the significance in market lingo? I'm still learning. :embarrest:

It can be used that way I suppose, but I have no insight into the markets... have you seen my returns?

Maybe I should have let someone else answer :(
LOL...you're fine Grasshopper. I was just wondering what all the hoopla was about. It just seems to be synonymous with the the other big indexes...no big deal

The Transports move America. Maybe the market sees improvement coming in ways we just can't understand at this time. The market has always been a future discounting mechanism and can be prescient ahead for up to 18 months.

I guess you can say Transports also drive the markets?
Ok, you guys made me look into it and I learned something new today. Maybe someone else did too. Thank you. :)

"Transportation Index (or Transports) are composed of stocks that are sensitive to swings in the economy and it is viewed as a leading indicator of the stock markets and the general economy. In simple terms, when goods are manufactured they need to be shipped and transported elsewhere for consumption. Therefore demand for transportation of goods is directly linked to the functioning of a healthy economy." Dow Transports | A Warning For Stock Markets As Transports Head Lower | Leadingtrader.com Old article but the explanation makes sense.

I voted for a slow jobs number this time around - so perhaps with the VIX at 12.69 -0.25 says bad news remains good trading. We could see another rebound once the sellers shake out because the Fed remains vigilent with no tapering as far as the eye can observe. If I'm wrong, well I do have 6 dividends due today for recirculation.

You are buying the worst undervalued sector - welcome to the contrarian bet. I will also be buying more coal as we proceed in our world economic recovery. And if it doesn't work out, well I can always use the write off against positive capital gains - but the risk is worth the investment.

The VIX is still showing further softness at 12.21 -0.73, so we could see some improvement going into the close. I think I need to acquire more RRTS.

I doubt you will have a write off, especially if you are buying at these levels. Although the "current" administration hates coal, other users around the world need it and the demand will only grow as the world economies recover. Based on my research, coal has gone through it's ups and downs before and it's currently basing as coal users burn through their stockpiles and producers cutback on production. I'm slowly accumulating (as I did a couple years ago with the big banks) and I'm expecting better times ahead for the coal/met companies like BTU, ACI and ANR. I wouldn't be surprised to see BTU in the mid 20s next year at this time and the high teens for ACI and ANR. Patience = $.

Was it you that purchased AIG last year in the mid-$20s - now at $49 and offering a dividend. I finally have a nice profit in it myself. Beep-Beep.

The VIX is tumbling now at 12.04-0.90 - can you smell the rally getting ready to coil up and blast off. No wait - that's oviously the sweet smell of superlative bull manure wafting today. When it goes it will go like a bottle rocket - blam.

In the next 12 months there are going to be some colossal rallies and you never know when they will transpire - if you are on the side lines you miss out. Parabolic moves are usually surprises that come from left field and have some shock and awe to them - I want my equity bubble.
