Birchtree's Account Talk

Well the chief comes in at the end of yesterday and tells me she doesn't think taking off for my family vacation sounds like a good idea. So she's wanting me to work with her and forget the first week.

So I pulled a Birchtree :D;) - which means I stuck up for myself.

Let her know I had not used 1 day of vacation this whole year. She denied my spring break request. So she's kind of like, 'Well so what'. So I let her know that we've already made a lot of plans and I simply can't wait a week before vacation to get everything lined up. But I thought it went in one ear and out the other.

So let em know when I got home that I probably wouldn't get the first part approved.

My guess is -- she must have thought about what I'd told her. I saved the best for last. As soon as I started talking about Sliverbird and checking out the USMC place near her -- it probably sunk in how deeply we've been counting the days.

Just found out -- it's all been approved. :D:D

Steady, I'm so glad for you! Good for you for taking care of yourself by speaking up about fairness with your supervisor. Have a wonderful vacation with the family.

Thank you so much Alevie !!

That is so deeply appreciated and it's wonderful being known by the few good friends I have.

We had a large staff meeting this morning and my supervisor began it by telling everyone about the latest 'Letter of Praise'. The family was crying throughout a good part of my encounter because they were so touched with the time I took to give the veteran the care he needed. They just couldn't get over the extent that I took to make sure I knew everything possible and got him the care he needed.

What is so terrible about this is that I got him only because the one who was supposed to take the time and get the details did not want to fool with it -- so he threw him over to me with hopes I'd admit him. Pass the buck - but admitting him would have been the worse thing to do.

Anyway - Thank You !! - the work I do (in terms of how many I see and all I get accomplished; the extent of complications and urgent crisis; and most notably the quality of service I provide) is much appreciated.

Have a wonderful weekend Alevie -- and I hope whatever vacation plans you have turn out great.

Steady

Barton Biggs says, "The market is very, very oversold, and I think we're going to have a bif pop to the upside some time in the next couple of days. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go to a new recovery high, just to make everybody squirm."

Based on what? the current P/E undervalued (no); unemployment declines (no); interest rate swap spreads declines (no); housing recovery (no); peace (no).

It's not oversold; it's gone from way overbought, to still way overbought; the market will go through a painful next 3 weeks of not less than 5% decline (1,040 in S&P) - possibly in the next week - and possibly considerably lower. I see no upside beyond 1,130 in the near future.

Give 'em hell Amoeba. (Old phrase used around my house when one person gathered up steam and started ranting about one subject or another. Phrase used only rarely and with some tongue in cheek. Possibly muttered, perhaps barely heard by the hell giver and by the recipient. Should, like most phrases used 30 to 40 years ago, be used more frequently today.)

Heh. It was my uncle who said only within my earshot and as he smiled "Give 'em hell Lill, give 'em hell" when my aunt was yelling at someone in the house for doing something probably wrong. This was in 1965, in KCMO, near the home town of Harry Truman.

I went in early this morning and doubled down on my BP at $36.99 - I just had to do it. I think their dividend will remain intact. That's some nice income for the ride down the road.

BP better put a lid on it soon.

To Big to Fail is not an option anymore.

Birchie, I suppose you know that the Buy Recommendations that are out right now are for BP at $29.xx.

The dividend continuation depends on a whooooole lot of things-like whether they were carrying enough insurance for all the cleanup, lawsuits etc etc, solvency of their insurers and re-insurers, how long it really takes to get the flow stoppered up and/or manageable.

Incidentally, can you explain something to me? If I'm taking dividends in cash rather than in shares, does my cost-basis in the original shares go up to reflect the dividend payout or does cost-basis stay at the price the original shares were purchased? I'm a bit confused about that at the moment.
