Birchtree's Account Talk

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Make money today.? OK if you want to start from today, yeah ok, your making money and I'm not. You should change it from "in to win" to "spin to win." Sheep will follow though, they believe.

What about goats? Baaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaa I believe!

Playing devils advocate: The question for everyone who is not in stocks, is, WHEN will you get in? Once we start going up in earnest, you will be in denial, while you day by day watch the market rise. Each time, you will hope for a big enough pullback which never comes, then you'll finally get in about 10% too late.

Core my friend, the same applies on the other side of the spectrum.
You want to get in, you want to get in, your not in denial and jump.
Only to find that your 10% to early. That is what I call risk tolerance.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

the past three 'capitulation' days (vix high @~35-38) 8/16/07, 1/22/08, 3/17/08, the following days, SP500 at least 2% to the upside, and followed through for about a week in the first two instances, and set off an 11% run to our previous highs in October on the last vix spike. I don't see 2% today, but I nibbled in with my last IFT for july.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I go back to the 1982 bottom and the rally that started in August of that year well before that recession ended. That always happens and you simply have to be there because you never know when it will flex its' muscle. No one believed in the rally and many in the brokerage business remained in denial for the first four months - the Birchtree was there and made considerable money blazing the lonely contrarian trail. And as a contrarian I stayed away from the hyper tech boom of 2000 - I kept buying dull and boring stocks that have since transformed themselves from wall flowerrs to roses. I don't listen to the gophers that have a tendency to pop up now and then - forgive them for they know not what they say.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I'm back to throwing money away again, just bought shares in: CBI, KEY, WB, FNM, C, MER, UBS, WFC.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I see vix printed a 38 @ the open today on a few different chart services. It feels a little weak being that is occured at that time and fell right off.

That looked like an error to me, looking at the charts. It looked like it actually opened about 28, went to about 28.5 and has fallen ever since.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I think another 200 points after 1500 hours would set up the spook for tomorrow.

I would not be surprised. We could go parabolic last hour, things could get out of hand with short covering. Either that, and/or we hold gains tomorrow or close positive again.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I knew I'd be edited over on Buster's thread - that Harvey is one great clean up guy.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Nah, it's OK. I learned real quick who the sissy is. As an Independent she could butch up just a little - but even that's OK. It don't really mean anything. Waiting on sugarandspite to weigh in - that'll be real fun.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Tom is viewing my thread so an admonishment may be in the works - if so I'll see you all later. There was no profanity used only imagination and nothing really derogatory. Although half the state of Utah would probably not be pleased with the imagery - we'll see. Tom, you know I was only playing and meant no harm to Alevin. Be gentle if you can.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

You should have kept it in house(your thread or mine) Birch. You know better than that. You have had plenty of opportunity but you strayed. Live and learn.

And Tom is probably viewing your thread for some market insight into what to do. You know like stay in or stay in and never leave or stay in no matter how big the losses or keep staying in or any one of the complexities that you apply.

Happy Pappy?

Re: Birchtree's account talk

There's a reason we have moderators. Believe me, I hung out with Nam Vets 10 years older than me back when I was 18-22. They got as raunchy with their jokes on our study breaks as you can imagine. I knew it was a test, being the only girl in the room, and didn't let it phase me, just smiled. Thing was, they didn't make it personal and below the belt the way Birch did today. I don't have anything to prove as far as being a sissy, Birch was just plain out of line and hostile as far as I'm concerned. Anything I've said to him up to now has been in the spirit of good fun and friendly disagreement over how best to achieve our mutual goals. And I've asked honest questions, being willing to learn from him on investing issues I have limited knowledge of. So coming into the playground with a machine gun firing at the only girl on the playground was uncalled for-and encouraging the other guys to laugh at the damage was just as bad.

Oh, and I forgot to thank the moderator and Tom. Thank you.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

alevin,

No damage done - no one laughing, I thought you were thicker skinned and I was proved wrong. Well will you accept my apology if I promise to be more sensitive in the future. I only use the quad fifty on rare occasions and today was only a water pistol offense. I just reread your above post and I fail to see where anything was personal or below the belt - I was talking about how one can handle an Indedendent. Over the line, yes, I even mentioned the post would most likely be edited but certainly not because of a complaint. Again I offer my apology for being unknowlingly offensive. No way to treat a lady said the tramp.
