Aviator Guy's Account Talk

As we enter the hurricane season, I think it’s important to keep up to date on these forecasts when they begin this season. As you probably already know, they will swing the markets. I wasn’t a member of this website last year, but I was able to take advantage of some great buying and selling opportunities by doing this last year and made some of the green stuff. Everyone still fears another Katrina will occur again and as you know, fear and greed drive the market! Seems like the commodity traders are always looking for an excuse to drive up the price of their goodies (oil, corn, wheat, etc, etc…) Good luck with your springtime TSP Investments!

I have been living on the left coast since 2001 and have only felt two, both very minor. During the Northridge quake prior to my arrival, it took out a big hunk of the overpass (I 5 and I 14) and that closed Interstate I 5 for a couple of months or so. That’s about 6 miles from my house.

So your by the Tejon Pass. Do you know it's quake history?:cheesy:

You were quite far to have felt the "small burp" which felt more like a slap in the back of your head. Ouch, it just gets a bit scarry because most of the major quakes happen during 4-5 AM. I've been living here all my life, but now all the highway pillars have been retrofitted with metal colars and aren't supposed to collapse, but I still wouldn't trust them.

$89,000,000,000.00 treasury deficit is the monthly estimate for April 2007? Can you imagine if you had this amount to invest? If you earned just 10 percent, you would earn 8.9 Billion dollars. Minus 40 percent capital gains tax and you would still have 5.34 billion after taxes. I think it cost roughly 30 million for a trip to the ISS (International Space Station) via the Russians. So I think that would buy a total of 178 roundtrips to space. I’m a pilot, but I get scared of heights when I’m not at the controls, so I would pass on that idea.

I’m keeping all of my funds in the G (mattress) fund until stocks go back on sale.

Bad news, oil up 1%, SP down .5%, NASDAQ down .6%, Russell 2K down .8%.

Good news, oil is still less than 63.00 and it’s supposed to get up to 70F today in LA. Good luck with your TSP Investments!

I was right on the center on whether or not to jump into the “I” fund today on COB April 12th. I decided to hold out a little longer in the “G” fund and play it safe. Good luck with your TSP investing!

I’m moving into the “I” fund COB Friday the 13th. Not sure if it’s a full moon tonight, but if so, I’m in trouble!

The economic news released today as follows:

PPI less food / energy = 0.0 vice the consensus of +.2

Trade Balance dropped about 3 %.

Consumer Sentiment dropped 2.5% (This is not good since consumer spending accounts for about 75% of our economy! But, I still have a hard time getting a good parking spot at my favorite malls. The economy is good out here on the west coast!)

Oil is headed back up to around 64.00. Upward trend in oil is always bad news for consumers.

Good luck with your TSP Investing!

One of my co-workers sent me this hotlink, “TSP Withdrawal Quiz”, check it out.

http://www.govexec.com/dailyfed/0407/041307rp.htm

Don't anyone be fooled! This link has nothing to do, as I thought the title suggested, with a medical questionnaire to determine if your body is suffering repercussions from being away from a computer and unable to access this website. It has something to do with different ways to take your money out of your TSP account. I thought that was called retirement. I want help for my withdrawal symptoms when I have to be away.;)

I have decided to bail out of the “I” fund COB 4-17-07 and jump back into the G (mattress fund) I made a nice profit yesterday and it looks like today might show a slight positive gain too. I’m just a little nervous being in stocks right now. Overall the economic reports look good. Good luck with your TSP investments!

Good News
Inflation numbers indicate it’s less than forecasted and good news on new housing starts.

Bad News
Oil has crept back over the 64.00 mark.

With foreclosure filings up 47% last month, it looks like it’s going to be a buyers market very soon, even in CA land!

California had six of the 10 metropolitan areas with the highest foreclosure rates. Stockton, California was the top metropolitan area in March for foreclosure filings. Las Vegas was second.

The other California metro areas in the top 10 were Vallejo-Fairfield; Modesto; Sacramento; Riverside-San Bernardino and Bakersfield. Greeley, Colorado, Detroit and Denver were also among the top 10.

It's nice to see there's a few Fed Civ. Travelers out there... I've been working for the Navy for 20 years... San Diego, HI, DC, Lemoore, Monterey, Italy and Nevada.... Looking forward to another move down the road... Ain't Life Grand!!!

Best of luck this week!!

John

One of my strangest civilian fed travels was when I took a C5 flight from Norfolk Virginia to the U.S. Navy base at Gitmo Cuba. Spent the night, then I flew out to the USS Kennedy on a C2 COD. Trapping on the aircraft carrier was a wild ride because I didn’t have a window next to my seat and you face backwards!! It’s like being on a roller coaster with a blindfold on!

I would love to do a trap on a carrier.

Asian markets are diving fast this evening! Nikkei is down about 2 %. This might turn into a large downward trend, so let’s hang on, it could be a wild ride!

Appreciation of the British pound breaks through $2.00. I read a Big Mac costs the equivalent of $4.00. I can live with that since I don’t like them, but a pint of beer costs more than 5.00 bucks! That’s just sad!

I’m out of stocks right now, but looking to get in if they drop anywhere near, 1434.22 SP, 648.28 Willy’s or 76.82 Eafeee. I’m also looking to jump out of F if it looks like it’s going up by the cutoff today and back into the G. Good luck with your TSP investing!

Watching Bloomberg and heard we haven’t seen a run up in stocks like this in a very long time. They said it happened 15 years ago and also in 1927, Hmmmm. I’m a Bullish investor, but when I get to an intersection, I always look both ways before I cross the street. Good luck in your TSP investments!

I hate being out of the market. I have been looking at economic reports today and just don’t see a lot of positive news at all. So, I’m still shying away from stocks.

Bad News… Store Sales week to week down -.3%, and year to year down -.2%, existing home sales down -.3% from a year ago, consumer confidence down and a major attack on an oil field somewhere in Africa. Plus stock prices have been driven up to record highs over the last couple of trading days…

Good News… Oil did drop in price today, but it’s still about 15 percent higher than it was back in Jan when it was 55. And other good news, it is 73 F and sunny skies in Los Angeles.

Good luck with your TSP investments!

I’m looking at possibly moving into the “I” fund by COB 4-25-07. I will wait until the last possible minute taking a close look at the latest economic reports and take another snapshot of the American markets. If all looks good, I will pull the trigger. Good luck in your TSP investments.

Overall, it looks like great news for stocks today! This will certainly carry over into the Asian markets / Euro tonight and tomorrow. It looks like Boeing hit a homerun with their new 787. They now have orders for 500 of them and started actual construction. Airbus answer to this airplane is their A350 and it will not be flying until 5 years after 787’s start flying passengers!

Only bad news I could find is that Anheuser-Busch profits were less than expected. So, being an ex St. Louis area resident, I will pick up some Bud product next time I hit the store. Good luck in your TSP investments!

I’m probably jumping out too soon, but I managed a nice positive return for April, so I will take my profits and tuck them back into the good ole “G” fund. For those who are in the USM, man, you dudes are riding a nice wave that seems to have no end! Good luck in your TSP investments!
