Are TSP Funds Diverse enough?

As of 3 December I have 5% into S fund, 95 in G. I'm waiting for an entry point with two IFT's available.

Can the S fund remain in the green till the 25th with out loosing some weight? Today is frustrating with each of the TSP funds now reacting and moving in unison. I want to spend money however the funds don't seem diverse enough within TSP to do so at the moment.

How concerned with current RSI should one be in looking for an entry point during christmas? Been in TSP 11 months now, self taught, and at 14% thanks to this website. Thanks to all that make it possible.

I do some hard asset investing in my Roth account. We should have more options a little later when more flexibility is promised.

The bill passed in the last Congress required the creation of a Roth option in the TSP.

By owning the C and S funds, you basically own 5000 companies; The S&P 500 and the Wilshire 4500. Add the I-fund and you are about as diverse stock-wise as you can get. Then you can add bonds and cash.

Unfortunately, to get any more diverse than that, you'd have to do the IRA thing where you can add metals, real estate, commodities, etc.

Hi Dave -

To add to my previous post, it depends on your strategy, timeframe, comfort level, etc.

If you are a buy and hold investor, it doesn'tally matter. Just get some shares and let them start churning.

If however, you want to do some timing, then that's a different story. The charts and indicators will help you there.

Dave,
The title 'Are TSP Funds Diverse enough'?? was a big grabber for me because it's something I've been hugely disappointed in.

NO !!! They are not nearly diverse enough and the European Fund they offer largely mimicks the other stock Funds.

My personal investments outside of TSP are totally different and have far greater yeilds.

So -- since I saw the Thread -- wanted to voice an opinion -- and I think considering the huge restrictions we've now had over the years to dabble in the Markets .... many other Funds -- very diverse in nature -- should be offered.

Steady
