Tom, how many people download the Weekly Tracker weekly? I'm wondering because you don't have to be a registered member to be able to download the excel spreadsheet. Just curious, and thanks again for having the vision to create this platform for all TSP'ers. :)

It looks like about 150 to 200 download each Weekly Tracker from the message board. In August over 700 downloaded the blank spreadsheet from the site.

I've been meaning to hard code "TSP Talk" on the spreadsheet so anyone who downloads it and passes it out will see where it came from. I've started seeing them pop up in other places.

Does anyone know how to do that? When I say hard code, I mean enter it on the spreadsheet so it can not be editted.

Thanks,
Tom

I could password protect all the worksheets in the Weekly Tracker. This is the only way I know how to protect a cell or group of cells having TSPTalk or its logo from being altered. This would make all worksheets read only and thus disallow any changes. It also requires more effort for the tracker because each worksheet (about 100) in the weekly tracker must be individually password protected. I tried to password protect all worksheets as a group, but Excel 2000 does not permit worksheet protection when more than one worksheet is selected. The Excel workbook protection feature is insufficient to protect data.

Adding worksheet protection also creates more effort when updating the data each week because the password would have to be entered to unlock the worksheet, then entered again to lock it once the IFT data is entered. There are about 10 to 20 IFT moves each trading day.

No, that's OK. That's not really what I want. I just want the logo or name to appear on the spreadsheet when it is passed around.

I'll check out Rokid's link.

Thanks!

I could place the text "TSPTalk.com", or whatever you like, at top of each worksheet in bold large font. Each workshet presently has "TSP Talk" at the top in regular small font. Is this sufficient? This is easiest to do with the Excel version I have, and it has minimal impact on workbook size.

This routine of password protection can be simplified if you automate with macro....you wouldn't have to do a thing but specify who you are inputing data for and input the data....the password protection is automatically done for you by the software......

I appreciate the suggestion on using a maco to automate. I did some research and uncovered a better way to password protect an Excel file so its read only when the file is saved. I also uncovered a method to protect worksheet cells from changes. This requires unlocking the data cells to allow changes and then password protecting each worksheet to prevent changes to the other cells that remain locked.

Tom has now indicated he does want to protect the Weekly Tracker from modification. So for now I will not pursue further research.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I just want to hardcode the name or a logo on the blank spreadsheets so when people download them from our utilities page, they can't take the logo out and pass it around.

This won't affect the Tracker until 2007 when a new blank spreadsheet is started again.

I just changed the header and footer so copyrights are in place. They'll show up when people print it. Of course the header and footer can be changed as well so it's not a fix all.

Tom you can also print anything on the page when opened by macro.....the cell protection EW is mentioning works also.....but you need to protect the worksheet to make it effective.....the read only isn't a bad option.....

Thanks guys! EWGuy says he's going to work on it for me. Once again, I appreciate all you help!
