5.8 Earthquake Hits the East Coast

I think I recall asking you once to let me know if you were coming to Utah, after a prior incident. Weren't you in Japan for their quake, or something like that? Crazy.

No, I think the last couple of big ones were that I was in Oklahoma during massive tornado outbreak, and Korea just when the North was shelling the south. I think those were the last two- Oh-and then I was in Korea again when they got the rain storms a few weeks ago that killed something like 41 people. You remember that?

Here is a clip from someone else today- when the quake happened, everyone ran outside, and were milling around outside for an hour- and of course, everybody wanted to try and use there cellphones all at once, and nobody could get out. I ended up sending a text message out - but it was about half-an-hour after the quake before I was able to get the text out.

Take a look at this- like EVEYBODY ran outside and were all standing around-

James have you cleaned up your drawers yet?

Not to worry. I am on a first name basis with God. He takes good care of me. I never am bothered- either he takes me today, in which case it's the happiest day of my life, or He doesn't take me today, in which case I'm fine anyway. It works out really well.

Next week, by the way, I am headed to Kansas City for the week.

Just sayin'......

God bless you and remind me not to go to Kansas City! Your first earthquake is always the worst.

Not always. My first was on the 3rd floor of the Tacoma Public Library in the early '50s, trying to shut down the switchboard when the red lights came on, and the building shook some...nothing else.
EQ #2, 6 years later in SE MO, 98 lbs, 7 months PG child #3, making 90 cents/hour, living in 4 room house with clothes washer in the bathroom, husband on road hauling watermelon & cottonseed hulls - me trying to hang onto the washing machine to keep it from banging into the tub - couldn't get nor reach around it to unplug it.
Quite a ride! It may have been only a tremor on the scale ( I have no idea now what it was), but it really quivered our little abode!

Ha! Shep Smith tells it like it is- hey guys, sure, things shook. But nothing is broken. Relax.

About time...

5.3 earthquake in Trinidad, Co.

Yeah t1t1, I was gonna mention that when I got home. This one never even made the TV news except maybe in CO. Guess us westerners just ain't important enough. Except for LA and San Francisco of course.

There are some reports of damage coming out of VA and DC in spite of what some may say. I never heard any more reports about CO. The USGS earthquake site today seemed to be stuck on either 1 Aug 11 or 15 Aug 11 depending on where you went. Tonight it works great. Must take an important earthquake to make them fix it.

OK, sounding like I may be suggesting a conspiracy. 5.3 magnitude quake in SE CO. Almost no news coverage, USGS site not updating. 5.8 quake near DC and the news is all about it. USGS site updated now. Next thing you know we will hear that the east coast quake made POTUS miss a putt.

Washington Momument closed indefinately. Cracks found near the top.

Engineers will be further inspecting in the morning.

Pretty busy yesterday so didn't get to post much. Felt the earthquake here in Cleveland. Larger buildings downtown swayed and were evacuated as a precaution. Here at Glenn I was on the second floor in a meeting when I felt the room shake. Thought it was the new building construction next door, until I got a notice on my cell phone. Just another day at NASA. :cheesy:

Grandma - didn't they have child labor law back in the day? Glad you missed this latest EQ. Thanks for your posts.
