Is it possible for them to assess a +FV today to counteract the "stale info" of the 5.5% loss in Nikkei. Ordinarily, I wouldn't even consider this, but 5.5% is a big factor.

Not on that basis. It will still depend on this afternoon's market action.

My friend called me yesterday. He has not yet found TSPTALK, and does not consider himself an exceptionally savy investor, but simply a buy-and-hold person.

The day before the downturn started in July, he called me to ask me if he should swtich out of stocks and into "G", because he thought he made a lot of money, and was thinking that he would move to sidelines for a while. He never made a trade before. (lucky guy).

I told him I though if he was happy with his 9% or so that he made january through july, then yes, he could move to "G" , and still make some more before the end of the year.

And yesterday, I asked him if he was ready to move back in to stocks, and he told me "No. Not until the fed cut, then I will think about going back in".

Well, I don't think he would really understand what a "fed cut" really is, but to him, that is the ONLY signal that he would trust to be an ok time to move again.

And a few mintues ago, he called me to tell me that the Fed has cut, so he is moving 100% back into stocks.

SO there you have it. my friend says the trigger has been pulled, and he is back 100% into stocks. (for only his second move of the year).

Nice.

EFA has given back over half of its early morning run. Mortgage rate is old news and now the market is settling in. It is just now heading back up. Looks like a roller coaster day for us.

I agree that the fundamentals have not changed, but it's not time to sell yet. Japan will rally big on Sunday night. The market might continue to rally more that 1-2 days, thinking that the Fed will cut in September. Obviously, any blow-ups in the Financial market will put a stop it.

Interesting take...

Of course, perhaps the selling will blow over. As we write, we read that the Federal Reserve this morning has cut the discount rate by 50 basis points. S&P 500 futures responded with a dramatic 2% rise. Perhaps the financial crisis has passed. Perhaps not. We don't know. But from out perch, the crisis wasn't triggered because interest rates were too high by 50 basis points. As such, it's hard to imagine that a 50 basis-point cut in the discount rate will cure what ails the financial system. Yes, it may bring temporary relief. But it's our belief, naive perhaps, that something more fundamental has upset the former rosy state of affairs. Until and if that's addressed, one might wonder if the recent turmoil still reflects deeper issues.

The EFA is not the I fund. Do not talk about. We only use it in reference to FVs.

Took out all of I yesterday now put transfer this morning. Does it take effect today after markets close or Monday morning? Thanks!

You guys are great to read, very interesting stuff. I've been a stalker for a while, now more interested in moving the funds some more.

what is a good chart to watch the changes. I was looking at the EFA yahoo page to watch it. I know I is a group of International stocks but would like to watch some changes during the day...Thanks!

Dennis Gartman of the Gartman Letter was on Fast MOney last night. He said that a great market indicator is the Euro/Yen crossovers... where can I get that chart? Anyone? Beuller? Thx in advance.

I use a modified version of ChemEng's spreadsheet:

I-Fund Lookup Post

It's nice work as is; I've modified my copy for my own purposes :)

One in the same. Today's closing prices are the same as Monday's opening prices.

If you make a IFT before the cut-off today (12PM Eastern), the IFT takes effect at COB today.

Things are rolling over pretty quickly. Next move for the Feds, cut discount window rate to 5.25%.
