XXI Winter Olympics

Just wondering if anyone is watching. I have always enjoyed watching the athletes in the winter sports. Likely because I could relate to those sports while growing up.

I honestly like the summer olympics more so than the winter ones. But that short track speed skating looks interesting. But i keep thinking if the lead guy would fart the rest would no longer be in the race.

Yeah, plus there seems to be some touching going on out there. I have some fond memories of spending time (too much but I was single then) in an American Legion post watching figure skating during the Harding and Kerrigan year. Never knew us vets were so interested in women's figure skating.

speaking as a vet myself there is something hypnotizing about it. I can flip through a million channels of BS but as soon as i see female figure skating i'm hooked.

US takes first medal EVER (silver) in Nordic Combined.

Is the US win over Canada in mens hockey enough payback for that humiliation in women's curling?

Watch this, forget politics, these athletes are the best.

My only gripe is NBC's scheduling.

Is the US win over Canada in mens hockey enough...

Ice Hockey is the most important event by far for Canada and the US forced them to overtime -- but Canada got the GOLD and I'm thrilled for them -- the US got Silver.

The Korean girl, 'The Queen' -- was the most beautiful and graceful girl I could imagine. I was so happy she got the GOLD in skating.

Those were the 2 Big events -- my heart was really for the other side. One -- because Hockey is 'Their Game' and Canada would have been hugely defeated to lose that. The other because Korea really believed in this 16 year old as 'Their Queen'

I think Canada did a super job with the Olympics from start to end.

Of course I'm always thrilled the US takes the most GOLD !!

Last I remember when they were showing the GOLD -- gosh it seemed like the US was way ahead.

My appologies to all --- I am always first and foremost for the USA


BUT -- as Canada hosted the event in the manner they did -- then YES -- I'm thrilled for them.

Anybody see Canada's gold in Ice Dancing? Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Beautiful!

Kevin, what you're sharing is warm, accepting, wholesome, and deeply beautiful.

Over the weekend my daughter, along with numerous others, plunged in a lake to support the 'Special Olympics'. They had to break through 10" of ice to make the water available. She also goes to a Nursing Home to teach a class once a week to help the elderly keep their balance. The weekend before she went through 30 hrs without food -- and worked at a soup kitchen during that time; preparing food, serving, and then cleaning up everything.

She does all this totally out of the goodness of her heart. She's helped to raise several children over the years with her own money and some others joined her to raise one more. She's in the 11th grade - with a 4.0. She's like a magnet to both the old and the young.

She is very much like the people in Gander ~ and in fact I can honestly say that our whole family is. Deep down that is what makes us 'Special' and that ~~ more than anything else ~~ gives us Value and Quality Life. I believe it is only in really letting go of everything and finding 'YOU CAN' totally trust your life to anohter that you find the ultimate purpose of what Life is meant to be -- but GOD has to be central to everything.

I'm glad there are people like you Kevin !! Who can honestly be happy for someone who did absolutely outstanding -- even if they aren't from the US.

How about Maria Riesch from Germany? She won two golds when Lindsey Vonn was the favorite to win. Not too shabby.

Lindsey Vonn's GOLD winning was my favorite moment of the entire event. She looks and sounds so much like my middle daughter; I just can't get over how much they seem alike.

Anyway after a short interview the announcer said there's someone here to see you and she saw her father standing near by. She went straight to him -- threw her arms around his neck -- burried her face into his chest and cried and cried. He holding her (exactly like I would have held my daughter and talked to her and supported her and encouraged her absolutely to the Nth degree as I would have done). Every other event pales to that -- doen't even come close. The way she looked at him and gave him a parting kiss. That to me was what made the GOLD all the more worthwhile.
