WorkFE's Account Talk

First Snow of the year here in KY. Not much.
Going to take the wife to work.
Choices: Let her drive her new Taurus or I take her in the ten YO F250. Move over baby, I'm driving:nuts:

How do y'all like the new Taurus?

My wife and I have a simple philosophy when it comes to automobiles. What ever I own to pull the boat, camper and goose neck for various farm tools it has to be appointed enough to go on trips but not to lavish. The other car has to be a gem. We have owned it for a while now. 2010 SEL model. When they planned on doing away with the Town Car and Crown Vic the Taurus was redesigned to accomodate that customer as well. I get mine at a reduced price but I believe the sticker was just under 30K. I have not found another model that competes with that. Fully loaded and I get 28 MPG and with the 19 gallon fuel tank. Now thats a touring sedan.
I did have to have them replace the rotors, no cost to us but they warped. Not sure if it is a recurring problem, have not read anything bad about it. I know before we purchased it the reviews were good. One bad comment I read said it was heavy and underpowered. If it is I have not felt it plus is I wanted a hotrod I would have gone with the SHO

One additional note. Going out west during the summer driving through OK we were clipping along around 110.
Drives at those speeds like a dream

Sounds like an improvement over the older versions. A co-worker of mine bought one last year and really likes it. The body style is eye-catching, but was curious about performance and gas mileage. Many thanks.

First let me say that I am a huge Joe Pa fan.
Considering their rather short existence in the Big Ten and alot of Great Names associated with the Big Ten, longevity wise, they could have gone a different direction.

How do y'all like the new Taurus?

Long time ago my family and I were returning from tour of duty in Okinawa with PCS to Lackland AFB in Texas. We arrived in Dallas via Pan American Air. Picked my new AMC car which was ordered while overseas and drove to Norfolk VA and back to Lackland.

Now we are planning to buy a new Taurus either here or in San Antonio and drive to Norfolk VA and back to Alaska. We will need passports to enter Alaska via Canada. My Pentagon FCU is offering deals on new cars wherever in States purchased. Taxes matter so I need to figure out buying in Texas or here in Alaska is best for me.

Any opinions?

WorkFE your a good man.

I'm not up on the sales tax for those particular states. I know years ago you used to be able to get tax exemption when purchasing where you are not a resident (Active Duty) but when returning to resident state taxes were due. Not sure anymore. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Texas: State Sales Tax: 6.25% (non-prepared food, prescription and non-prescription drugs exempt); local option taxes can raise the rate to 8.25%.

Alaska: State Sales Tax: The state currently does not have a sales and use tax. However, 62 municipalities impose local sales taxes that range up to 7%. Anchorage does not have a sales tax.

Looks like the municipality in which you purchase the car is important.

The mark up in Alaska (cost of living ect) is substantially higher than that of San Antonio. Even with San Antonio's current .0812 tax rate, Alaska may still be more expensive. Of course you factor in the cost of license and registration, if your a citizen of Alaska, you may be mandated to re-register your vehicle once you move back.

Well with only a handfull of days remaining it looks as though I will come up a bit short digging out of the negative 10% I put myself in earlier this year.
Plenty of individuals attempted to guide me to a more agressive allocation (BT) which would have lifted me from the dark dungeon but I was affraid of the dark.
The good news is we will all be tied at #1 in another week.:D
Oh well live and learn. Not that I'm giving up, there are 7 trading days left so of course there is still hope.
