Windows 10

I will experiment with ubuntu before surrendering to win10. even if I have to partition my hard drive and get technical help from my goto computer guy to transition me to different operating system.

Trying to keep things running without "upgrading" is becoming a full time job, monitoring Update, etc. Those who realized that it is pointless to resist are probably smarter than anyone, except userque who knows how to implement a different OS. :)

Thought I would bring this to the top again. Getting close to the mandatory windows 10 update. Anymore good or bad news about windows 10?

My wife's computer ran Windows 10 fine for many months but for last month or two it has lost setting and active tiles from the Start button and Edge, the Store and something else are blacked out on the task bar and won't run. Seems like she has lost all of the Windows 8 features and she is running Internet Explorer 11 instead of Microsoft Edge. The left mouse button does nothing to the start button but the right button brings up applications. The machine also runs slow but Internet Explorer works well.

I tried to re-install Windows 10 but it did not fix anything. I just upgraded one of my laptops to Windows 10 and it works fine but Norton complained that Edge does not support extensions and wanted me to switch to Internet Explorer. Any suggestions on fixing my wife's computer or problems with Microsoft Edge?

Thanks!

Because you mentioned sites not responding, it sounds more like a network driver problem to me.

I've invested a lot of hours into Windows 10 and it's inability to multitask wireless. My issues are now mostly resolved, but I'll tell you their bluetooth sucks and the wireless is a not as good as the previous OSs.

To do the reset go to the Settings section, Select Windows Update, Recovery,Backup section, then select Recovery and then select Reset this Computer. Hope this helps!

Hello TSP'rs, I have been having serious problems with my computer running super slow. Lots of sites not responding, etc. Found a way to fix most of it by resetting. Basically allows you to retain personal files for the most part. Wouldn't do it without backing up of course. Make sure you have all your apps backup disks since those will go away. Especially Microsoft Office if you have it and your Product Keys, etc. Lots of effort but it seems to have cured the majority of my problem!

The TOR project uses a hardened and stripped down version of Firefox for their browser. It's not better. It's bare-bones. It's normally used when surfing the darknet and is designed for extreme privacy.

 TOR, heard of it, not familiar, obviously. think I'll focus on replacing windows with Ubuntu when current OS is no longer updateable, and/or security software supporting Win7 is no longer supported. I still have a WinXP machine, it doesn't go out on the net very often any more. definitely not for things requiring passwords.

So...."stock" Firefox? Is there a "non-stock" Firefox?

You're on fire tonight, b. Must be the aftershock from the debate. Wondering if UQ has a different answer.....he seemed to imply an alternate browser was available and better, but didn't name the mystery browser alternative.

yes. it is called morse code by carrier pigeon, but sometimes the pigeon unexplainably dies. the internet was created by al gore and darpa gov is the internet, don't be fooled. if you want to exist or transact in the modern environment then you must submit your number to the beast. there is no way around it unless you like living in caves and eating roots and berries and squirrels. also showers are out but at midnight sometimes you can sneak in a bath at the creek with only the drones watching.
