Win Xp Crash

thanks folks .... alot of good info...

I might just wait for the Black Friday Sales in November to see if anything comes out.

Also Dell hasn't come out some of the door buster deals that they used to come out with like 600 or 700 off coupon codes for the higher end units.

There are a lot of military or government employee disoucnts out there available if you look hard.

Not sure of the biggest discount, though.

I just purchased a reconditioned Toshiba Satellite P105-S6197 for $781 total cost from Directron.com. The downside is it only has 90-day warranty from Toshiba so you take some risk. The price has gone up $70 since I ordered one last weekend. It arrived yesterday. The cost, hover, is now $835 + shipping. Here is the link: http://www.directron.com/p105s6197.html

The notebook is 17 inch wide screen display, Intel Core 2 Dual T5200 (1.6 GHz), 2 GB DDR2 memory, 160 GB SATA 5400 rpm hard drive, DVD+/-R/RW 8X burner. It also has fingerprint ID security, multi-card 5-in-1 reader, IEEE firewire, and four USB 2 ports. I has integrated 56K modem, Intel Pro 10/100 fast Ethernet, and Intel Pro 802.11 a/b/g wireless Ethernet. The software includes Windows VISTA Home Premium, Ulead Movie Factory burner software, Microsoft Works 8.5, etc.

Dodged a bullet with "Data Recovery Wizard Pro"

Managed to get all the files and drop them over onto a dvd-rw conected via USB

Whew....

Time for a new computer for my 9 year old daughter and a new lap top for me.....keep your eyes out for deals from dell. If you find one PM me or post them here.

For JPG files you may be able to find a JPG recovery program on Cnet. Also be sure you are not logged in under a "Cashed" account. Go into the "Documents and settings" folder and pull up your profile just to confirm the files are indeed missing.

I've not had much luck with the recover feature embedded in XP. If you go back too far, you will lose the current files on your Desktop.

I work on computers for a living, but the truth is, if I have a problem, 9/10 times it's quicker to rebuild and start from scratch. Fixing computers is not hard, but it can be time consuming...

you know it may still be there because my disk volume is still kind of high...so i figure all those mp3 and photos and zips are embedded somewhere...

do you have a suggestion on a free ware or shareware version.

actually does anyone have a suggestion?

Buda, don't download anything. The files might still be there and still be recoverable. Get a software that recovers files. Google it (file recovery software).

Got home today and the system wouldn't boot up.

System then went into some sort of DiskCheck noticed something about orphaned files ..... yadayaya

finally it boots and there it is ............... all my desk top files mp3s and photos were all gone but some of my other software is still showing up and operational via the start menu.

I went to system restore and the only restore point is from TODAY!!!!!!!!!
